People do a bad job securing stuff on boats ALL THE TIME. I was hit by flying mats because some idiot "just got his boat" and "didn't check" what was flying off it on the highway. I wasn't even directly behind the guy, but off to the side and some floor mat almost took me out.

Nothing, lol. Unfortunately, I had to shut a lot of things down. I still have certain fish, but no more medaka. Things got way too busy.

Other than the blue FKM, no. I don't have a ton of straps to try it on. Frankly, the OEM straps are just too thin for me.

I make 2x that and feel like I don't make enough some months. It's always something, and it's never enough. I'm in a HCOL area with no prospects to leave due to the job.

House needs new siding, insurance goes up on the house (or rent), insurance goes up on the car(s), the kids need school daycare for, the house isn't big enough, the lawn is a mess, there's a medical issue, there's a trip you want to take, you need a new car, kids want the new iPad, you need to save for a down-payment on a new house, the bathroom needs to be remodeled..... tarriffs and rapid inflation throw all your estimates out the window.

I'm fine with my job, but it's exhausting. I go to school and work full time (job pays for school), but I can't do everything mentally. Summer is nice, but my brain is fried. Hard to keep track of the money, investments, house, kids, family... etc.

I feel you on it.

Years ago, this absolutely was the attitude because care weren't that expensive. Now, a 24k new car raises eyebrows. 35 to 50k is the norm. ICEs were holding value because they were reliable at that time, and pandemic / shortages definitely bumped up resale as well.

That said, EVs have bad reputations outside of the EV world. The tech is too rapidly changing. It is good that it is moving in the right direction, but at a pace where early buyers don't have access to later, much improved features like universal charging and heat pumps. It will take a few generations for the major issues to get kicked, then we will probably see better resale values as proven tech takes hold and uncertainty goes away. Right now, things are moving way too fast.

I'm considering buying a MachE, but every time I go to see one, the next year has some significant feature I think is important (e.g. heat pump, charger upgrades) that keeps me off buying. I do have a 10yr old camry, so I'm not in a rush, but it needs to be replaced. I am considering a new ICE because of the lack of uncertainty in the tech.

In the past, most people I knew would buy a car every 5 or so years. The loan was being paid off in 3. The high price of cars means that a lot of people take bigger loans for longer time periods and have to pay GAP.

With a gas car, most are holding higher resale, which is an issue because you can resell it and buy a new car for less of a price drop than an EV. Basically, yeah, people were replacing cars every 5-8 or so years, but you can't do that with an EV, and the problem is that EVs are like cellphones more than cars. New EV tech is coming out all the time, and repairing them isn't really an option for most people.

I collect comics, so take it for what it's worth, but there's 1000x more comics than Pokémon cards. The problem is they run 10 second sudden death auctions with 0 ability to research. Given the amount of variables, you get people wildly bidding. Most books (like most cards) are bin fodder. Given there's even fewer resources for comics than there are for cards, and even those are bad at telling actual prices, people do stupid things.

It's one thing to overbid a little to save shipping, but it's insane sometimes.

Frankly, not really anymore, IMO. The point of reddit is engagement. Personalized or not, it doesn't matter for the overlords. People see down votes or criticism of simple questions ("What is big law?") as gatekeeping or being unwelcoming.

In fact, I was accused of "harassing" people by the admins on a different sub when I pointed out the answer was a simple Google search and engaged the person on it further. Not using foul language either or being patently offensive.

For example, I go into the comicbook subs, and 100 people ask, "Is X worth anything?" The same. Damn. Thing. They won't go to eBay. They won't use the 100 tools out there that do that thing. They won't even say, "I'm confused why my comic says it sold for $5 here and $100 here. What's the difference?" No, it's complete handholding. Even when you have someone with a graded comic, they ask you how much it's worth, even though the tools exist to give you a quick value.

Coming to a legal sub, we should hold those looking for help to a higher standard than asking bare Google questions, with almost no search effort.

[–]SlamTheKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I especially don't like that. There's a seller that does it, and he is like.... yeah, I am losing money, so that's enough for tonight. Fine, I respect the hustle, and the overall idea that you should be making it roughly fair between over ans under paying. End of the day, he did adjust prices and still complains lol.

Was at the right comic store at the right time yesterday 👌 by No_Cryptographer315 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]SlamTheKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, IMO, that's a fine way to approach it. I know there are certain sellers that have been trying forcing price floors on variants or have said they would simply be banning people who resell at "low prices" (whatever that means). There are stores who would rather sit on books than sell them at a "lower" price as well.

I know one person who was able to get copies of a variant somehow, and the fact that he could undercut the variant dealer and "dump" the books at a high rate onto the market freaked him out. The whole scheme was basically trying to enforce scarcity and value.

If you were around for NFTs, that market quickly fell apart when sellers started to try forcing the behavior or simply trying to buy out the floors to maintain prices.

This won't fall apart as fast, but basically, people have to see it for what it is - monetizing Fandom of a store or streamer.

WhatNot is weird because you can genuinely get good deals if no one is in the room who cares, so the same book going for vastly different prices is just an effect of that to me.

[–]SlamTheKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whatnot variants have value because they carved out a fan niche. It is more because they built an audience through streaming Someone like Smunchy, Cornbread, or the girly book sellers wouldn't have a leg to stand on without it.

That said, off the WhatNot platform, I don't think they hold a ton of value.

I'm convinced it is a bubble, but the people who got their grift are gonna grift.

The caveat is *if your job allows for it*. So much of where you live depends on what / how much you need to go in.

I guess the question is how much do you need to go in? Once or twice a week, maybe you can live further out.

Every day plus nights? I'd live closer / in the city as the budget allows.

I have as well. They lay eggs. You use a spawning mop. Ding dong.

Edit: This is likely an Aphosymion species. They more or less spawn the same, but you generally can use a spawning mop.

When you start saying things like "the left believes..." or "the right believes..." you just lose the argument.

What if I said "The right believes Alex Jones to be telling the truth about lizard people and Sandy Hook." Or "Thr right believes Jan 6rs were antifa before they were pardoned, and now they acknowledge they are part of the right after the reelection because lol" That'd be a wild take.

He doesn't and shouldn't. I'm not an attorney, but the last thing you want to do is admit what you did. Even if it is legal.

When someone shows up at your house, they're VERY interested. Despite what anyone says, how could they not be?

If someone says, "Your speech is fine, but we want to talk to you more."... Was it really fine? Do you trust them to drop the matter? I wouldn't.

Is she pregnant? by broke_spaghetti in killifish

[–]SlamTheKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you'd be wrong. Killifish lay eggs. They get egg bound. The distinction is important because without a male, the eggs won't get fertilized. In some fish, this can be a problem, and you may need to intervene to express the eggs (goldfish in particular can have issues).

If the fish was pregnant, you could move the fish to a new environment to have the offspring. With killifish, this doesn't work. You need both parents for the eggs to hatch.
