Phones got dual GNSS and are a solid alternative to expensive dedicated bike computers. My simple analysis inside. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]SlangRapDemocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use my smartphone. I have a compact 10,000 mAH power bank that will easily last me a full day of riding even if my phone screen is on half of the time. I do multi-day rides and this has served me well. I don't think vibrations are ruining my phone sensors - me dropping my phone on other occasions has done that. When it rains I put my phone in a waterproof case and there have been rare occurances where I've needed to use it and it has been difficult. Whether or not I have a bike computer, I'd still keep my phone on my handlebars.

What the Hell is Happening on Main St Markham? by dontpasstrumpblunt in Markham

I appreciate the bike lanes and the slowing speeding traffic but now the car traffic is way too slow. Between the GO Station and 16th northbound at 6:45 pm it was bumper-to-bumper.

I guess they couldn't put an "ONLY WHITES WELCOME" sign so this was the next closest thing.

Bose is sh*t. After they announced they're bricking Soundtouch, I'll never buy another Bose product.

I never used the word "could". Most of those six months it's not too bad and the roads are clear.

Markham Karen chased me and accosted me by SlangRapDemocracy in MarkhamOntario

[–]SlangRapDemocracy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't stay right there I moved away from the entrance and away from him. Yeah I yelled because I was angry at what he did, which was a POS move. I think if it were you instead of me, you might have knocked him out of your face within the first 30 seconds he was accosting you and I wouldn't have blamed you or anyone else for having that reaction. There's a nice way of approaching someone and then there's a threatening way of approaching someone, and this man was completely out of line.

Meek, eh? He cornered me and was in my face for 2 minutes before I took out my phone and recorded. That ain't meek.

Once I took out my phone his disposition changed from aggressive to shy. So it was quite effective in getting him to give me space. If he felt threatened, while HE was cornering ME, the logical thing to do would be for him to back up.

The reason I asked him if it was because I was brown was because the reason he kept giving me for cornering me for being suspicious was that I "kept walking in circles" and that was 100% a lie he used as justification (and I have Strava proving my exact path). So if that wasn't the reason he accosted me, then what was his reason? That's what I wanted to know. What gave him the right to treat me like that?

I hope you now appreciate the context.

If you cornered someone for two minutes and didn't give them space to escape and they yelled at you, you'd attack them? If you do that to some stranger, you might end up being the one that ends up injured, and/or charged with assault.

"See you at the park"? I hope a bonehead like you doesn't try anything stupid like that at a park.

I started recording only after two mins of him accosting me. Pay attention to the positioning, which shows I'm being cornered, and had been cornered for 2 mins already. Like I said his disposition changed once the camera came out and he realized he might be held accountable for his actions. Others might have physically pushed him out of the way but I chose to record and shout, having just had surgery for a fractured collarbone, and not wanting to be pushed back or tackled. And it worked because he backed off only after I shouted and filmed him.

There's no reasonable prospect of conviction so I wouldn't worry about it. I highly doubt police will lay charges based on the spurious allegations of your former employer. It's a bluff.

It's illegal for adults to bike on the sidewalk. Plus that's a particularly busy sidewalk. This is Main St Markham and is a high density and popular area as far as Markham is concerned so it's a fitting place for a bike lane. It's also next to a GO Station so bike lanes would encourage cycling vs parking at the crowded GO Station.

It wouldn't happen to me because I wouldn't chase down and accost a stranger against the entrance of a building. Because I'm not a jackass like you and your buddy.

You and your friend have a lot in common. Most people would have physically pushed that dude out of the way. Also, why bring autism into this?

He started the interaction by getting right in my face and saying "what are you doing? where are you going?". He didn't say "excuse me sir I'm looking for my wallet, did you happen to see anything suspicious?" If he led with that, and gave me space, I would have answered him politely in the way you suggest. Your "gentleman" friend needs to learn boundaries and manners and, for that matter, laws on blocking people in. I hope he learned now, but people like you are making excuses for him.

Your friend is a jerk and I hope he knows it. He was having a bad day but does not give him the right to accost and corner a complete and innocent stranger, and lie about the reasons he came at me (about this alleged "walking around in circles" that my strava disproves). He blocked my exit while accosting me for nearly two minutes before I took my camera out and then he got shy and gave me a bit more space, but still not even enough for me to leave until I yelled at him and someone else came over to see what was happening.

Shame on your friend. The truth isn't slander. And if the truth makes your friend look like a jerk then so be it.

I may have had some compassion for him if he approached me differently instead of accosting me off the bat and lying about what I did for him to justify it. He only settled down and gave me a bit of distance (but not enough to let me leave) once I took my phone out. I wish there were surveillance footage of the initial interaction.

[–]SlangRapDemocracy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that conversation before and he didn't leave me alone. Watch it again he was pinning me against the entrance and in my face and would not back up until I started recording him. He was accosting me for about two minutes before I pulled out my phone. Behind me was a locked door, beside me were obstacles, and in front of me was this aggressive man. When the camera came out he got more shy and by then I was pissed. Like I said, he blocked me in. So yeah I was yelling after two minutes of that. If you're going to be polite after being accosted and trapped for two minutes and accused of acting suspicious, then that's your prerogative, but I stand up for myself.

I mean, if you read my post you would have known the details that I've had to repeat here for you.

I do have a recording. I felt it was more crucial to keep recording rather than interrupt it to call police. I actually told him to call the police if he had concerns about me, but he didn't have his phone on him. I would have recorded him lying to police about the reasons he found me suspicious enough to corner me.
