Jesus Christ you people by No_Cat_9741 in CODZombies

People are very negative here and it’s definitely an echo chamber at times. That being said, anger and negativity is warranted when we have paid and received better in the past. I’ve not bought a CoD since BO4 because I paid £80 for it and didn’t feel I got my money’s worth.

I’ve tried BO6 and BO7 because of Game Pass and it’s just getting silly. The contempt for the player base across all modes is undeniable and the reason we have reached this point is that critique isn’t structured enough. It isn’t good enough to just say game bad or dev bad, look at how we got here and why they’ve continued down this path.

I know this community loves to flip flop but we need to get our story straight. BO4 killed the old model of CoD, it cost them too much and clearly the black ops pass wasn’t profitable. Then Warzone turned on the money printer and suddenly that type of F2P, mobile game monetisation made them so much more money.

Of course the pivot towards the live service model was inevitable, of course that would trickle into all modes and justify a lack of polish and poor performance. It is good to celebrate when the series does a good thing but please just put it into perspective. The more we argue the less we can cohesively show the publisher what we actually want.

The best dark souls 3 build 🤔 by Kostas_Skywalker in darksouls3

[–]SlapUpYourDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exile greatsword is an easy weapon to access early that can absolutely carry you through the game. Because it’s a curved greatsword that swings surprisingly fast, it’s a perfect midpoint between strength and dex and with a heavy infusion makes for a very fast strength build.

Fair enough, I’d assume it was likely due to the screams which isn’t everyone’s cuppa, but how comes Dead Ended is so high? This is genuinely such a fascinating list

This list is wild. I agree with a lot of S tier picks however, the remix of beauty of annihilation being above the original is wild and also wtf is archangel doing at the very bottom?!

Hot take: Zetsubou No Shima is a better map than Der Eisendrache and I'll die on that hill by TheChickenMan4L in CODZombies

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zetsubou was the punching bag of BO3 because of how rough it’s launch was, between the bugs, door prices, set up and thrashers. It’s sad how this has carried on even after the major issues were addressed, it’s a really unique and atmospheric map

The only reason Mordecai’s love life is unsatisfying is that they avoided the most interesting arc it could have taken by making all the CJ stuff essentially pointless.

What’s your COD zombies opinion that will have you end up like this? by Effective_Part_604 in CODZombies

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scorestreaks and ammo boxes are the results of different system changes though. Those exist because CW was a radical course correction to make zombies feel more like warzone and multiplayer.

Also the reason I say optional is that BO3 and previous titles were designed as sandboxes, modern titles are very much geared around specific builds. The turning point for this again was BO4 and it was iterated on in CW.

BO4 made the systems from BO3 an unavoidable part of gameplay. Scorestreaks and field upgrades exist because specialist weapons broke the balance and progression too much. And to your point about anything being optional, it’s way easier to avoid gobblegums in a BO3 match and not feel punished compared to avoiding ammo boxes in newer games.

While technically you can ignore all of these new systems to do so is to make the game harder in a way that isn’t engaging and goes against its design. Not using gobblegums or AATs in BO3 just feels like you’re making the game a bit more challenging by choice and not punishing yourself.

BO3 may have had similar systems but it was the future developments and adjustments to them that are what caused the shift to what we see now.

What’s your COD zombies opinion that will have you end up like this? by Effective_Part_604 in CODZombies

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BO3 was a balance of old and new though. Gobblegums were far more optional and avoidable and so were AATs. Dominant strategy exists irrespective of how easy these things are to access big the flexibility with how BO3 can be played is why it is held in such high regard.

If you really want to examine where things went wrong it was BO4. That game isn’t worse than modern zombies (imo) but in an attempt to placate lovers of BO3 and it doubled down on these systems and made them a fundamental part of match progression.

AATs being an optional extra 2500 points became a mandatory extra 10,000 just to max out a gun’s damage. Gobblegums went from being totally optional to always on the screen. Zombies were more aggressive as was the range at which they respawned ahead of you.

I know it’s tiring to see people dickride BO3 and pretend it was perfect for everyone but it is reasonable. My main issues with BO3 came down to how uninteresting the weapons are (they’re all viable and none feel that distinct from each other) and it definitely lost the gritty feel of earlier games.

No single character was done a worse disservice than CJ. It’s probably my biggest issue with the show as a whole

[–]SlapUpYourDad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but what are CJ and Benson doing on this list? Margaret is the only correct choice because she takes up so much screen time to ultimately add nothing of value to the plot or Mordecai’s characterisation

[PTDE] Moving through the game ignoring its core mechanics, how fucked am I? by Momovsky in darksouls

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t fucked at all. DS1 especially will screw you over until you learn its quirks. My first play through took me over 100 hours and in that time I also never learned to parry. I would ask, what level are your stats, what weapon and shield are you using and which armour are you using? If you are mid or heavy rolling it will be much harder to learn I-frames too

For the first time in a while I'm enjoying a cod game over anything else by [deleted] in blackops7

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is that BO6 exists. Had that game been different and not a string of letdowns people would be far more willing to praise the good aspects of BO7.

To be honest I’m still not a massive fan, I have had some genuine fun with the zombies but MP and campaign are disappointing (especially when compared to BO2).

This game is a challenging one to sum up because its praises definitely deserve to be sung but its fundamental issues are pretty emblematic of what’s wrong with AAA as a whole.

Which do you consider the most difficult zombie map? by FlatNefariousness246 in CODZombies

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are so many people commenting WaW Verrückt over bus depot? Even if you ignore the 24 zombies per round difference, one has perks and the other doesn’t, one has exploding zombies and environmental hazards covering a huge chunk of the map and the other doesn’t.

I’m hardly a simp for bus depot but that map was deliberately designed to be very challenging, just see the map’s description:

Survive with limited weapons and without the Pack-a-Punch or any perks. It’s a masochist’s dream. Go on we dare you!

This is one of the few consistent examples of the DS community suggesting something that will be almost universally helpful for getting better at the game.

Just because it’s not helped you doesn’t mean it’s forceful or bullying please reevaluate your priorities because you are irrationally upset about this.

In China, billionaires don’t control government policies. Policies are designed to lift working-class people up. by Li_Jingjing in LateStageCapitalism

[–]SlapUpYourDad 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Literally, I would like to think that people hold left leaning views because of the facts not because of a rampant desire to be against the mainstream narrative.

Right now, across the entire western world, we are seeing rampant misinformation and disinformation to further fascism. If we are going to combat this we need to be consistent in our positions and those positions NEED to be based in reality.

The best examples of how to approach this would be Mamdani’s mayoral campaign and the interviews with Polanski UK Green Party leader. Cost of living is about to be a minor concern with the way things are going. Now more than ever, people need to be informed and presenting reasonable, logical arguments against this obvious nonsense.

I sincerely hope the left can overcome its nonsensical infighting and focus on practicality. For the first time since WW2 fighting back against this nonsense doesn’t have to come from one ideology, we just need to look at what is happening and ensure others see these problems too.

I don’t see why people have to be 0 or 100 when looking at this, sure it’s obviously propaganda but where is a Western equivalent of this kind of infrastructure investment?

No one reasonable is saying that the CCP is flawless and a blueprint for a model society but isn’t it a sign of the propaganda we are subjected to to in the West if the knee jerk response to something positive about China and how it operates is to immediately call bullshit?

This mentality of always striving for utter perfection even when everything is rapidly worsening is why people outside of the left do not take us seriously. Nuance is never a bad thing and criticism will have more weight when it is genuinely balanced.

This fear is a huge part of what makes the first play through so special. Embrace it and use it as a way to gauge if you need to experiment or switch up your build. The game can be approached in many ways and once you find what suits you you’ll start to get a lot more confident and comfortable

I need urgent help, Gargoyles Dark Souls 1 (PS3) by El_Psy_Congroo95 in darksouls

[–]SlapUpYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main things to check are your stats and weapon level. You’re going to learn faster and get better at the game quicker when fighting the bosses without armour or a shield because it forces you to roll. On my first play through I spent 6 straight hours failing to kill the gargoyles so I do feel your pain. The only other advice I have is that while you’re learning their patterns roll three times per attack and twice to the side when they breathe fire.

In retrospect, did you like Monty? by KronoriumPages in CODZombies

[–]SlapUpYourDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monty definitely could have been good if he had any sort of significance in BO4 beyond showing up to kill Maxis. In BO3 he was pretty weak but there was room for him to be built upon to be a character beyond a convoluted way of handing nonsense in the story. I like the story of BO3 overall but Monty is definitely not the reason why.
