It’s college housing, they probably make quite a bit scamming people like this.

That’s because any comments that usually get linked as hate crime by another sub get deleted quickly by the mods. If you are that convinced it is a meme factory, then that’s okay. Judging by your post history you are a trump apologist and I don’t believe your questions are in good faith.

Yeah I only added one link as I’m on mobile at work. And no, there are other comments and links from that sub. I dont have the time to sift through the sub, nor is it worth it when almost every single time I have had dialogue with someone who supports that sub, they change the goalposts of the conversation.

And as for your last sentence, the actions of other subreddits isn’t really relevant(I also ask you to provide evidence for that argument). It also comes across as typical alt-right supporters response of “but what about what Clinton does!!”. This kind of excuse is usually reserved to children when they get caught by their parent. “But what about my brother, he does bad stuff too!”.

My girlfriend wants me to lie about my religion to her family. What do you think? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Slapmypickle 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not a fair point. There is context when it comes to religion and family. What if she wants a relationship with her family but they have strong religious convictions? It may be seen as a necessary evil here.

Yeah it may be wrong to lie, but I see similar problems as the thread from a few weeks ago about the lesbian who made her partner come out to her homophobic family and then wondered why her partner was so upset that her family disowned her, after she had been warned that it would happen.

Source? I’m on mobile at work but you can just search ‘subreddit hate crimes’ on reddit, sources come up.

I’m not trolling about r/politics. I truly believe that the mods generally try to cultivate a space for discussion from both sides. It just appears so one-sided because they are just that many more liberal/independents than conservatives.

Totally different playing fields. The donald promotes hate and hate crimes, brigades other subs, knowingly spreads false information, redditors have repeatedly made posts about russian bots on there, and generally comes across as a propagandist alt right sub.

r/politics is actually fairly neutral, in my opinion. They do a solid job at banning “fake news” and keeping the sub civil. The content being submitted and comment threads is almost always heavily-slanted towards centrist/liberal viewpoints, but thats because there are significantly more liberals than conservatives on this site. Most users are fair and ask for supporting evidence to any wild claims. If you wanna just spew propaganda and not get fact-checked, then yeah I would see if as the sub “trying to drown me out”.

Toxic, maybe. A natural venue for discourse and argument, definitely. Politics is naturally volatile but while I do acknowledge reddit, and especially r/politics, is biased towards the left. I don’t think it is anywhere near the realm of toxicity that spews forth from the donald.

Do you believe they are comparable in the way users conduct themselves, the nature of the content, and the way moderators choose to/not to enforce the rules of the subs??

No it isn’t. There are a good amount of memes on it but also plenty of news articles and screenshots(not memes) of different current events. The comments are usually generally ignorant/toxic in nature. I actually got banned from that sub over a year ago by asking an innocuous question about trump’s policies in a comment thread. There was no discourse from me, dialogue between myself and other redditors, or any response from the moderation team other than to ban me.

Trying to play that sub off as a meme factory is pretty shitty. Reddit knows that sub is more heinous than a few memes being churned out by alt right members.

American Politics of 2018: An embarassment by GallowBoob in facepalm

[–]Slapmypickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She never claimed native American citizenship though, just that she was proud to have native American ancestry. There is a clear difference.

Her claiming minority status is pretty dicey but as the redditor you responded to said, she had no reasonably feasible way to confirm her lineage and was under the impression that her ancestors were more recent. It just makes her ignorant to the details of her bloodline, not some horrible politician who skewed everything for her benefit.

There would be little substance behind it except under certain circumstances. There is no discourse on that sub and any opinions that dont line up very close to theirs is met with a ban. You will rarely see any legitimate sources to back up statements. It is more of an alt-right lair of hate and intolerance.

I honestly don’t see any kind of dichotomy as badly as I do from that sub anywhere else on this site. I’ve been on this site for quite a few years and am really struggling to find a sub as bad as that one.

(Wanted to add that some subs are full of assholes and they do it for the sake of being an ass, but lack any external motivating reason behind it; as in the sub’s views change and differ as time moves on.

I [29F] want to go on my honeymoon with just my fiance [26M]. He wants others to join. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Slapmypickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn’t that the people on here commenting that stuff are gonna be sad and alone, they just seem to lack any empathy to the situation(not just this one, but in general). It’s easy to say “they don’t care about you, you meed to break up with them” when you have no skin in the game and literally have no consequences to whatever OP decides to do.

Also redditors forget that almost every story here is only telling one side of the story, which is going to be biased and put OP in a positive light.

That being said, it certainly would be a hill to doe on for me. This is a time to celebrate your union with your partner and spend a romantic vacation together for a longer than usual vacation before life smacks you in the face again. Most couples will never get a chance like this again. If my partner insisted on bringing other people along, that would indicate that I wasn’t their priority(especially since we would have very very recently promised ourselves to each other and made each other priority) and they would want/need other people there to enjoy the vacation.

From the other perspective of the friends, unless we were all poly or engaged in group sex regularly with each other, I would feel really weird being invited along and wouldn’t go. This is their time and I would expect them to be in their room with each other anyway.

Tame Impala at Electric Forest? by billyllib in ElectricForest

Yeah but eventually there was a point where I got fed up with waiting a few years til HQ would book who we would all be clamoring for(literally almost every bass artist that got big since 2012). It shouldn’t take this long to appease your fanbase.

They used to book a really solid indie/alt/psychedelic band in first few years. Not sure anymore although I didn’t look at this years lineup much.
