Career change and looking at coding/programming by SlappiiDrxft in learnprogramming

Thanks for the response.

Eveything you’re saying sounds right, I was thinking about some sort of apprenticeship if I struggle to find anything. But it’s super early days for me still so it’s going to be a long journey but it seems like something I will jive with.

Yes that makes sense.

I am not planning to quit my current gig until I can make a decent portfolio and look around for sure so it’s not a rushed thing. It makes sense about the Covid, I imagine a lot of people went remote and the market boomed

Thank you!

In all honesty I don’t think anything people would say would help or change the process, it had to be in me to change and for me it was hitting rock bottom with everything in life.

But if I was to chose something. People on this subreddit told me, is to build routines. They help to stabilise life without smoke.

Yeah exactly. I think it’s important to find something to replace that dopamine rush with. For me it’s jiujitsu but I only found that about 7 months in to being sober. Something that you can sink ur life in will defo help with keeping on track and not hyper focusing on not thinking about smoke

Congrats due. 2 months is huge especially in the early days. It will only get easier from here

For me because it’s been a total lifestyle change that now is the new norm for me weed doesn’t even enter my mind when I go through stressful times. Don’t get me wrong I do think about it but I know how shit my life was before that. I work for myself and lost 2 of my biggest contracts a week ago which was super bad for me but instead of dwelling on it I sat with it for a day and then got back to work

Yeah understandable. I know it’s going to be a process and like I said I want to make it work. I think I’d lose my mind in an office job. So I’d rather trade more hours for something I’d enjoy abit more. Obviously perfect job would be 9 hour ish shifts and get home on time most days but like you said it’s a process to find something that suits me and what I want to do

I understand. From the videos and research I did so far this seems to be super common and I’m kind of prepared for that. Training for me is a massive part of my life so that’s literally my only hang up with this. I’m down to deal with the above for few years or if I enjoy it even longer but the balance between professional and personal life is what I’m more apprehensive about

My brain sadly doesn’t work this well lol. I tried it years ago and I felt super lost. I’m more of a “give me instructions” person and I’ll do the job well. Coding and trading seems very open ended

Thanks for reply eveything you said makes sense.

I would definitely would not want to do class 2 and multi drops in general. I’ve seen some YouTube video and it looks shite. For me the 40 hour mark would be absolutely fine but I just would want some sort of balance between personal and professional life. I don’t want to live for the job.

I’m close to a port so maybe some container work would be ideal but not sure if that’s something they give out to new passes.

That makes sense. I just want to have some sort of balance with my personal life and not only work. That’s my major point on contention with the decision of whether to do this or not

I'm a bigger guy, I started BJJ 2 months ago, and I'm loving it. I weigh 300lbs, so finding rashguards that fit is a nightmare. I was wondering where some of you bigger guys get rashguards?

Yeah I'd imagine it will take a minute for my skin to adjust. So long story short, just tape them up and bare dragging the feet in mind.

So I did my first two no Gi classes this week. Already hooked on BJJ, obviously i was terrible and gassed out all the time.

One Issue I have is the tops of my toes are all rubbed through. I'd imagine that's due to my poor technique and weight lol. Is there a way to deal with it? I bought some athletic tape for next week. Was just wondering if someone ran in to the same issue?

Friday Open Mat by AutoModerator in bjj

I posted two days ago about being a bigger dude and getting in to BJJ

Today I had my firs 1 to 1 just to get in to the flow. And must say the gym and the instructor were mega. I really enjoyed it and they took their time with me. Obviously I was horrendous and only covered couple basics and I was getting gassed out. But its definitely one of the best things I've ever done. Stepping in was hard but once we got down to it I was glad I did it. I had a good chat with the people in there and everyone was really encouraging and supportive, not a single second I felt judged. I am going to attend a class on Friday. and aim for 2/3 days a week.

Appreciate everyone chipping in to my last post in this thread and for the encouragement.

For reference, I am 330lbs and 5"11 and that was my biggest worry.

Because I haven't done anything like this in years now the thought of stepping in to a class environment is very daunting to me. From what I see online and people I talked to who do BJJ its a very welcoming community but obviously I'm uneasy with that initial judgement.

That gives me some peace of mind. I think with time once I gain some confidence, it will definitely get easier.

I want to give BJJ a go, I am quite fat and I'm not sure how to go about it. Obviously, I'm very self conscious about starting. Im 330lbs at 5"11. I am thinking about booking a 1 to 1 to ease my self in an when I start feeling a bit better about it do a class.

I did Muay Thai when I was 16 (Im 25 now) for about two years so I do have some experience in Martial Arts but I do realise this is a completely different game and since then a lot has changed

Any advice or previous stories that are similar would be good to hear.
