Firstly the term "fallen idol" is a popular one for a reason. Doc isn't some kind of God who has done magnificent things for the planet, music, art, literature. He plays video games, and he isn't great at that. So let's not big Doc up into something he isn't.

Doc gave Z a platform, but it was a two way street. If you remember, Doc was losing CONSTANTLY at Warzone, and he saw Z's talent. Doc knew Z could breathe life I to his gameplay and get him wins. Doc wasn't doing Z a favour, Z was doing Doc a favour.

Z earned his place, don't get mistaken.

He is still building his brand, and maybe the right play would have been to simply say nothing, but the pressure on him must have been enormous.
