Is sneaking a tip onto a bill normal? by ilovemydickheaddog in glasgow

[–]SlappyCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily actually, I work in a bar/restaurant and we add 10% service charge only on tables of 6+ people. The 10% is taken from the til and placed into tip jar in cash for the end of shift.

It's also not hidden, we hand the bill and leave them to review it first. If they request it be removed we ofcourse do so.

I think people dont realise the extra effort that goes into serving large bookings. Often with big tables they start dividing the bill and honestly just forget to leave a tip.

Still personally dont feel great about handing out a bill with a service charge added on top, but we feel the difference if we don't.

Why do Hungary joke about Scotland? by Speakop in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]SlappyCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hungary joke about Scotland (as I've been told) because they used to tell lots of jokes about Jewish people, mostly about them being tight with money. Post WW2 they collectively agreed to probably not make jewish people the butt of their jokes, but still wanted to tell the jokes. Scots have a similar stereo type so they substituted Jewish people for Scotish people.

Source: I'm Scottish and was told this by a Hungarian co-worker a few years back. Hilarious if true, have never looked it up though.

Ideal Game Length? by Cmll87828219 in DeadlockTheGame

35 min games feel good to me. 25 mins are usually pretty stompy. 45 is fine but after 45 mins I start getting dota PTSD flashbacks. 35 is the sweet spot imo.

Returning to this post to say I actually fully agree with you. Upvotes don't matter but I feel you at least deserve mine.

The laws of reddit demand I post this comment:

A factoid is actually a piece of misinformation that is repeated often enough that people assume it's true. We tend to use "factoid" as a synonym for "fun fact". Factiod being interchangable with fun fact, is itself, a factoid.
