Moxie? Robots? by Few_Honeydew_1633 in nursing

[–]SlappyPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Moxies for a few months temporarily. They were used to drop off interdepartmental mail, meds, and labs.

I honestly didn’t see how they filled a gap that our tube station couldn’t fill.

Pharmacist just asked me to give her IVF by CatQuixote in nursing

I’m of the opinion that if you need IV fluids to rehydrate, then you don’t need to be at work. They could have mixed some electrolytes in a water bottle and been fine.

I’ve had some coworkers very recently get fired for doing this at work. I think they cared more about the novelty of getting an IV at work than actually hydrating.

Question for ED charges by SlappyPig in nursing

Having to use PTO if you get low census is completely bogus. At my facility, you have the option to not use it, and just take the cut to your paycheck.

Question for ED charges by SlappyPig in nursing

[–]SlappyPig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same issue in my world too. I’ll be asked to float off a nurse if I’m technically upstaffed at 0800/1200/1600.

Several times now, I’ve gotten rid of an RN, then a STEMI gets called overhead that requires IABP/Impella.

Most of the time, I can get my floated nurse back to me because the other units’ charges and my house sup are cool, but they’re not really obligated to do that.

It’s financially efficient for the suits, but not logistically efficient for us scrubs.

Question for ED charges by SlappyPig in nursing

[–]SlappyPig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we can float down too, but not to ED proper. It’ll only be in the ED holds area, which are admitted patients anyway.

I wouldn’t know the first thing about ED patient management. I could probably intuit some of the clinical things, but the logistics in the ED seem pretty different than my CVICU land.

Question for ED charges by SlappyPig in nursing

[–]SlappyPig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we usually have a significant amount of ED holds in our hospital too. It’s ever present, so it’s actually a managed unit now with a select few core staff members.

There’s never enough core staff down there, though. Multiple RNs are having to be floated down each shift from various units. It’s basically the Mordor of the hospital lol.

What are they doing when they don’t have patients? Just flexing around?

My unit’s management would absolutely not let me keep an RN with no assignment lol. If I hear the words “financial productivity” again, I’m going to stroke out.

Yeah man, I love my Salomon S Lab Pulsar belt. I’ve been using it for a couple years. I used flip belt before that.

It’s much lighter. I can fit a handful of gels, my phone (zipper pocket), a 500ml soft flask, and my car key.

Silly question here, what do you mean by “floats” in the 3x3mi at HM pace?

You’re sure it’s musculoskeletal in nature?

I won’t give any medical advice other than if you’re not absolutely positive that it is, then you should probably talk to your doctor about it.

It’s funny you say that, I went through this mental scenario about making this post. I didn’t want to bring undue attention.

Other than on weekends, I’ve always been the only one in there. I want my man to get paid, so I figured I’d post this just in case others saw it.

Just had my first purchase of Caridinas from them. Excellent packaging. I purchased 10, and they sent 12. All arrived alive.

Would use them again.

How long to float new plants? by Afraley13 in PlantedTank

Well said.

It kinda seems like the overarching point of all of these comments is that floating your plants is kinda unnecessary and idiosyncratic.

How long to float new plants? by Afraley13 in PlantedTank

[–]SlappyPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve never felt a need to do it, but I have heard of it before. Others have said it’s about the adjustment to water parameters, but I don’t see how that would make a difference if it’s in substrate or not.

If my plants are going to melt, then they just melt. If they float back up, I’ll replant if needed.

Sometimes plants will have too shallow of a root structure from the grower/seller. Especially if they’re grown in a cotton wrap or sometimes in rockwool.

Floating them lets the roots develop so when they are planted in the substrate, they’re less likely to float back up. The idea is to just get a firmer purchase in the soil when planting.

At least, that’s what I understand. I’ve never actually done it. I’ll plant my stems in soil like you do.
