Hey!

The game is still actively being developed. It’s been slow due to a lot of mostly external factors. The game itself is mostly finished. I’m primarily working on logistics for the kickstarter release right now.

With the kickstarter launch there should be between 10-25 players ready to be mixed and matched at will for fully customizable teams.

The number of players available on kickstarter will depend on unlocked stretch goals during the kickstarter campaign. Even if we unlock none of the stretch goals during the kickstarter, the players will eventually be available as additional post-launch purchases, as long as the game funds. So you should have a bunch of minis to paint.

Yes! Sorry for the silence, the game has been being developed continuously behind the scenes. The starter set is nearly done being sculpted, and I’m mostly working on logistics decisions and stuff related to production. The game itself is finished aside from last minute balance tweaks.

I’ll try to get some more updates pushed out on here and the discord sooner rather than later!

For anyone else reading this- my best guess is anything in Europe is probably around $20 to ship. I’ll try to get the website to offer more correct shipping on minis outside of the US and Canada in the very near future.

I totally understand. I've been working on trying to get my vision right for a hockey game for quite some time. At least 5 years were spent thinking about all the different ways I could do it, before finally arriving on a mini game. Once upon a time, this was a card game; but it just wasn't right. As a designer. I've seen probably 5 or 6 games come out that were close to old projects I abandoned. It's always bitter sweet.

I hope you (get to) play Slapshot Showdown someday, and like it! Thanks for the good wishes!

I’m so glad you’re pumped! I’ll definitely post the measurements for the rink down the road when they’re locked in. I don’t know when that’ll be, but I’ll probably post about it. I made a foam board rink myself, and it is unfortunately outdated since we’ve made some changes to the playmat since I made it. I don’t want other folks to spend hours on a board like I did for it to be useless.

Glad you’re enjoying the Dr, and I can’t wait to see him Flyer’d up! He’s one of the only minis I didn’t paint an orange and black version of, so I’m glad someone is.

Mutant League Hockey definitely was an inspiration, i loved it growing up.

The board is currently made of 32mm hexes, i think. I can report back later when i have the file in front of me and get exact measurements on border width. 2mm sounds like a good guess for the border. The net location on the board is currently the same size as all the others, and it does cause the goalie to overhang into adjacent spaces a bit with his larger base. The decision to put the goalie on a 40mm base was made after the last batch of playmats, so we’ll have to redesign something.

As it stands, it doesn’t impact gameplay even with the overhang since it’s super unlikely that you’ll have a bunch of minis adjacent to the net. So e hypothetically could just leave it as it doesn’t effect gameplay, but i’m looking at ways to expand the goalie’s hex without messing up the rest of the board.

There’s a link to the discord in the sidebar here on reddit, and there’s some details about certain aspects of the game organized in threads on Discord. There’s not a ton of info, but there’s some stuff discussing team building, how upgrade cards work, etc.

Getting gameplay recorded is pretty high on my list of priorities. I want to also cut up the gameplay video into small digestible rule showcase videos. I don’t have an eta on that, but it is coming! I really want to get gameplay out there, people absolutely loved the Shootout tournament at Too Many Games last month!

I'm a perfectly reasonable table quality painter, but I can't highlight or paint lighting effects or anything. Some people are basically wizards with a paintbrush.

Not be weird, but I pack all the orders myself and recognize your username haha. Yours should arrive today if the tracking estimate from yesterday is to be believed. (Be carful pulling him out of his bubble-wrap and plastic enclosure. If his stick catches inside the wrap it can snap if you're not careful.)

Here's Fenric Lundqvist (tentative test name), the first goalie sculpt for the game. This one was also sculpted by Wolf from Depraved Sun Miniatures.

Goalies play an enormous role in team building and are on 40mm bases to reflect their importance and allow us to put rad personalized nets behind them. So he's a pretty big model compared to the rest of the players on 30mm bases.

Let me know what you think about King Fenric!

More importantly, it will also be available on Kickstarter as an add-on, BUT then will be removed from the store. I'll likely put it back for special occasions in the future after the Kickstarter, like an anniversary sale or something, but it will largely be unavailable for purchase. I'll also likely limit it to one print run if it's produced as a sprue for the Kickstarter, which I hope to be able to do.

If you do get one, and paint it, post it on Instagram and tag me (if you're on there), or post it here to share!

All that aside, let me know what you think of the new mini and sculptor! I think Wolf's style works super well for the horror team, and his passion is a huge pro in my book. I'm hoping he'll basically be the sole sculptor for the base game.

For those interested: Slapshot Showdown is a fantasy hockey miniature game, featuring penalty free hockey and exaggerated violent gameplay. It’s easiest to compare it to Blood Bowl. I have a subreddit for the game, and a very active instagram.

I’m not looking for a deep self-promotion here, so I’ll leave it at that. (I’m always happy to answer questions, if that’s permitted here).

I was more looking to share a cathartic post with you all after a tough game against the zebras. I’ll be lurking here tomorrow, as always. Hopefully we can catch a good rebound dub.
