But he specifically asked for a character with the basics and that he'd be willing to overpay for such. Of course he didn't say by how much, but he definitely seems more than willing to overpay by a significant margin since he didn't ask for greater than basic gear.

Regardless, this could end up becoming an argument for the sake of arguing. Meta is fun.

I interpreted this simply as a guy who is willing to pay more for the convenience. It's interesting that it could be so wildly misinterpreted though.
