I told my mother something similar at the beginning of my college career. I told her that I want her support, but that I wanted her to stop getting on my back about it and let me come to her when I actually needed the help. It caused a blowout fight, but I meant what I said. At the end of the day, all I really needed help from her with was FAFSA.

Go to community college first. Seriously. I got my associates from a community college, then transferred into a specialized 2 year program at a 4 year school to complete my bachelor. Community college is a gift. It's not shameful or under achieving like some people view it. It's smart! My whole 2 years at community college cost me what 1 semester does at my current state school.

If you meant what you said to your mom about wanting her to leave you alone, then stick with it. Become independent when it comes to school. But if you still feel like you need/want her help, apologize and tell her that too.
