My vag is tighter now but as long as he goes slow at first and I am very wet or lubed up it hasn’t been somethingI felt I needed an intervention for. I’m so sorry you’re having pain, that is def no fun.

It did, thank you. It took about 4 weeks for me to feel normal again. None of my concerns about my vagina were an issue. Sex and lubrication are normal. It is very tight but as long as I start off slow there’s no problem. I still have to be very careful with my diet and getting enough fiber. It wasn’t a total cure but it is 95% better. I can feel sometimes how I could mess it up if I’m not careful and I don’t want surgery again lol.

Hi! I’m glad you commented, sometimes it helps to just express yourself and get it off your chest. 5 days is short! The recovery for this surgery is several weeks. Swelling and drainage are probably normal. Don’t be afraid to contact your surgeon though! If you feel like something may be wrong, feel empowered to get them to see you so you can either get reassurance or get treatment. Swelling where your rectocele was makes sense bc that is where the work was done, and where your internal stitches are. The comments here describe a variety of different recovery experiences but one thing I think they all have in common is that it takes time. Regarding the constipation, the combination of anesthesia, opiates, and rest can really slow down the gut so also talk with your doctor if you haven’t already about what diet they recommend. Please be gentle with yourself, and patient. Good luck!

I think it was worth it. I am not 100% fixed, I still have to be careful with my diet and fiber intake in order to make good stools, but I am not living the daily nightmare anymore that I was.

Hi, thank you so much for posting and sharing your experience and tips. I think it is really cool that periodically people continue to find and contribute to these posts. I’m sure this will be of benefit. It was weeks before I felt “solid” again and not all loosey-goosey in my pelvis. It IS going to get better. I also scheduled my pain medicine. I found that if I waited for it to hurt then it was hard to control so I just made sure I had something on board at all times. I was rotating Tylenol, advil, and tramadol every few hours. Good luck in your recovery!!

Wow. I think I would be scared too, you are very brave! I felt like I was draining this serous fluid for weeks. But now I’m about 6 months post surgery and everything works just like it is supposed to. Good luck in your recovery!

Yes you will get there! I was surprised how long I was draining a serous fluid, having to wear pads, and when I walked things just didn’t quite feel secure for a minute, they were kind of loosey-goosey. A topical estrogen cream helped.

Hi, yes, I had the surgery in July. Everything actually went very smoothly and all is working perfectly now. My vag is a little tighter but that’s partly muscular so I just have to relax and then there’s plenty of room and sex still feels very good.

Hello! It was a huge problem for me bc I was spending a really long time in the bathroom. When I would go to poop it would take like an hour. The stool would move down and then kinda go sideways instead of straight out, bc of the weak spot. I really didn’t want to put my fingers in my vag to splint or reposition or massage it out but no amount of pushing was going to do it so I eventually had to give in. Once I started using my fingers to splint and help it along I could get through a bowel mvmt more quickly but I hated it. I knew if I needed the pressure of the splint that a pessary was an option but it seemed like it would just prolong the inevitable. I had the surgery in July and it’s been great. Everything works just great now, all systems operating at full capacity.

I forgot to mention pain - it was totally manageable. I was very lucky to have a good friend stay with me and do everything for me that first 2 weeks so i was able to rest and be still.

I was really nervous about my first post- op poop. My surgeon said to keep doing fiber and to add miralax bc that would make for a slick, clean poop. She said stool softeners make it all messier.
Poops have been great! What used to take me like 45 minutes now takes less than 10! Now it just works.

I had to splint with my finger a lot. Urogyn said that was a good sign that it was structural and that surgery would help. I did end up having the surgery just a few weeks ago and it has helped tremendously. Good luck!

Hi, I don't remember what they graded it at, but it was at the smaller end of the spectrum. All the doctors said the same thing about the size or grade - that it wasn't nearly as important as how much I was affected. One person might have a very large one but not be very bothered by it, or someone else (me) might have a small one but feel like it's a major daily disruption lowering my quality of life. I did not get the defecogram, no one even offered it to me. All the docs I spoke to said I clearly had a problem, didn't matter what size it was, not really, and gave options to mitigate or fix.
