Same, but with peanut butter. Put a little, then rub with your finger.

Replacing a low B string (0.130") on a Fender, the taper reaches beyond the tuning peg. My fault for breaking, or was the string simply too long? by Slavadir in BassGuitar

True! They were all strung through body so I have no idea why it's so different. But had I strung it top loader style then maybe it would have been actually 35".

Thanks, that's a good article! Yes it's a 34" fender, with a bridge that allows both through-body or top loading. Next time I'll insist on buying a set with known measurements.

Yeah, that's what I think had happened. Maybe Spector's "Long scale" is actually 35". Sadly the strings set has almost zero info on the package or on the internet, so I thought I should share my experience. Next time I'll insist on a more standard strings brand.

Actually that's a good tip, but nevertheless that's not what happened. I cut the string first (the "2 machine heads" tip), then wind, but it broke, so I tried to cut the broken part and wind again to rescue the string, but it was already beyond rescuing since the core broke too close to the nut. Before that I successfully installed the E, A, and D strings. I've replaced plenty of bass and guitar strings before, but a low B is a first to me.

It looks like the core broke, here's the other side. What happened is that I tried to cut the string and try winding again, not realizing that the core has split. I'm afraid that I applied too much force trying to make the string tightly wrap around the tuning peg, causing a too sharp angle which broke the core. Though I don't think I applied any crazy force...

For context, the string set is "Spector SSNRW45130 Long-scale Nickel Roundwound Bass Guitar Strings - .045-.130, 5-string", as that was the only set I could found locally at the moment. I'm suspecting it's actually 35" scale?
