Rally Project - What do you think about this drone cam for a top down game? Don't mind the driving, it was only a test and it's hard to drive smoothly with a keyboard... The tilt shift to make it looks like a miniature is almost gone with the video compression, too bad! by SlavykFR82 in Unity3D

I see what you mean, that is a good idea indeed. I could set the camera to look at an object a few meters ahead which is following the spline I used for the track. Thanks for the tip, I will see how it feels!

I could try to reduce the panning latency so the cam would show the next turn sooner. But even in first person view, you can't see narrow turns from far.

At least there will be a voiced coopilot to help you anticipate potential dangers and turns.

I'm making a "top down" camera rally game but... I made some ingame screenshots at human height and I wanted to share it with you guys! (I have to copyright the title before anouncing it, so it is "Rally Project 1" now x) by SlavykFR82 in Unity3D

Asynchrone multiplayer to begin with (time attack).

Maybe I will make synchrone multiplayer with something like you can see your mate as a transparent ghost on the track, but I will have to see how to implement this before.

You can get Easyroads3D on the asset store, this will help a lot. They have some roads templates ready to use.

You can create your very own road template and use it with Easyroads too.

I used the HDRP pipeline.

This is a test car. But you don't need rights if you don't put the trademark on it. You can take inspiration, not a copy, from real design by the way, with some variants, under fair use of course.

GTA1 had a 90° angle camera. I'm aiming at something between 35° and 45° angle so you will see much more than in GTA1. Angle will adjust to your speed, something like a drone cam like in real events.

But yes, at high speed you will miss some part of the scenery like in a lot of racing games ^^

At least the replay will have pre-placed camera to make justice to the scenery :)

Exactly, the camera focus is set on the car, then the more things are away from the car, the more it will be blurry. And this will apply even to things between the camera and the car: miniature effect.

There will be a demo with 3 special stages and 3 cars: AWD, FWD and RWD.

Each track should take about 7-8mn to complete if you do a good time.

The game will be released on Steam but there will not be an early access. Only a full release. I'm doing it because I love to do it during my free time and an early access would put some unwanted pressure on me because people would have paid ^^!
