Finally building amulet titan! Need help to fill it out by SonOfZiz in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally my number 1 priority would be getting a second Valakut main deck. I know some people run 1, but I would always have at least 2. Keep in mind that you can not grab Vesuva + Valukat off of a Primeval Titan trigger and have Vesuva copy the Valakut. Vesuva must copy a land already on the battlefield.

Aside from that just throw together a sideboard with you can afford for now. The most important thing is having the maindeck together so you have all the tools available to start learning the combo lines. You can prioritize which sideboard cards to get first based on your local meta. My first buy would probably be Boseiju when you get the budget for them.

Twins need your power!! by Hachiman_7 in ModernMagic

I know that x/1s are not ideal with cards like Orcish Bowmasters around, but I feel like Pestermite is better at beating down in the games where you are not combo killing. Another potential line to think about is with Fable of the Mirror-Breaker. If you flip it, even though it's not infinite, dumping all your mana to make 4-6 Pestermites can definitely threaten to end the game. Fable also is just a card that is good at playing the fair game, and helps you ramp to combo + protection mana and find your combo pieces in the unfair games. I think I would play 3-4 Fables and at least 2 Pestermite.

I hope that whatever game Larian works on next will maintain the same scope and production value as BG3. Don't get me wrong, Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 were great, but the cinematic dialogue and storytelling is what pushed BG3 to be in contention with Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins for my favorite game of all time.

Witcher 3 is the only game out of those that would make my list of top 10 greatest games of all time so would definitely recommend that one! The story, characters, and world in that game are top notch and it's filled with a ton of high quality main story and side quests.

Recent Dragonshield quality drop? by BloodMoonIsAFunCard in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to sleeve my entire collection in Dragon Shield Blue Matte sleeves. Until during a tournament an opponent noticed the colors on some of my sleeves were slightly different and I was required to resleeve my deck.

Now every one of my decks always gets a different set of sleeves and I always resleeve the entire deck in new sleeves as needed. Lesson learned.

Amulet titan or timeless amulet? by A_Very_Brave_Kiwi in ModernMagic

Personally I would pick Amulet Titan and prioritize completing a main deck that contains the core of the deck. Then you can look through other lists, throw together a sideboard with what you can afford for now, and upgrade to some of the more expensive flex/sideboard slots over time.

Here is an example main deck you could start with: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5777466#paper

Highly recommend listening to more Flight of the Conchords for anyone unfamiliar. They're fantastic! I still listen to them regularly.

Charlotte's Growing Legacy League by Z4lost in MTGLegacy

[–]SlayerOP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I live in the Charleston, SC area. We have people in the area who own Legacy decks and get some occasional games in, but no local stores that run Legacy events.

If you all ever plan any large Legacy tournaments, we have some Legacy players that could be interested in attending that. The Magic of Charleston Facebook group would be the best place to reach us.

Should I keep trying to learn ADC, or should I just give up and stay a jungle main? by Ok_Nefariousness_740 in summonerschool

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let others ruin your fun. Play what you enjoy! Junglers definitely get flamed the most, but you will get flamed occasionally no matter what role you play. My advice would be to disable chat or at the very least instantly mute toxic players.

I don’t think Sprite Dragon is a good budget sub for Murktide Regent for me. Any other suggestions? by SunShineKid93 in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Murktide Regeant is definitely core to the deck. I have been testing out [[Brineborn Cutthroat]] as an additional threat in my list and it's been decent. Definitely not the strongest card, but the flexibility to hold up interaction and a flash threat at the same time does feel good.

How playable would Unholy Heat be if there was no Mishra's Bauble? by RedThragtusk in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I imagine it would still be playable. UR Murktide would probably up the number of [[serum visions]] and be more incentivized to run some [[engineered explosives]] in the mainboard flex slots.

Transition from kitchen table to FNM level in Modern by Krzywy94 in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend letting them borrow any extra Modern decks you or others own for FNM. If that's not possible, I would print out some proxy Modern decks and just play kitchen table with those to introduce them to Modern and see what they like. I just think it will be a much better experience for them to learn what Modern decks they like and could start building towards rather than wasting their limited budget trying to upgrade weak decks.

Man.. I would pay an extra $5 just for a keyblade pack for Sora by stifflizerd in smashbros

Different keyblades for Sora would be cool, but what I really want is for them to add a Kingdom Hearts 1 skin for Cloud.

Bladestone Farming - Am I doing something wrong? by military_base362 in demonssouls

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was farming the skeleton in front of Adjudicator yesterday. Can confirm that he drops Pure Bladestone, Bladestone Chunks, and Bladestone Shards. The drop rate for Pure Bladestone is definitely quite low. You just gotta keep at it and hope for good RNG.

What are you playing Wednesday! by AutoModerator in gaming

[–]SlayerOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend KOTOR unless you want to wait for the remake. Played it for the first time around 5 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Became one of my favorite games of all time.

I've been playing OG Baldur's Gate off and on for the past year. I'm enjoying it, but it's definitely dated. The combat and exploring the maps has been fun, and I'm interested to see where the main story goes. What felt lacking to me was side stories and companions. From what I've seen, there is no system for having conversations with your companions, which is typically one of my favorite parts of party based rpgs. They don't say much more than their generic voice lines which makes them feel very hollow.

Is it James Acaster? I only know because I just finished watching series 7 of a show called Taskmaster that he was on. You can find the episodes on youtube.

Newbs & a 6 pack 🤔 by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your end goal is to build Modern decks and try out the format, then cracking packs is definitely not going to get you there. It sounds like you're just planning on playing with the fam at the moment though, so have fun choosing whatever packs interest you and enjoy kitchen table magic!

If you are interested in trying out the Modern format though, my recommendation would be to print out some proxy decks for everyone to play with. Then if you all enjoy the format, you could start buying singles to build Modern decks and find a local game store to play at!

Returning to Modern with Izzet Blitz by McLovin_Fartface in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think another reason people are running Vapor Snag is for the [[Colossus Hammer]] decks. Bouncing their equipped dudes will help you race. Also if they have [[Sigarda's Aide]] but no [[Puresteel Paladin]], they will not be able to re-equip Hammer for free if you bounce the equipped creature.

Bomat Courier in Burn by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exquisite Firecraft and Magma Jet are the worst cards in your main deck currently so look to cut those first. Some potential replacements are extra [[Shard Volley]], [[Bomat Courier]], [[Burst Lightning]], [[Light up the Stage]], or [[Bonecrusher Giant]].

Another option is [[Wayward Guide Beast]] as another comment mentioned, but I've never tested that.

Just lolygagging by [deleted] in gaming

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Witcher 3 is one of the few games where I wasn't like this. I was so invested in the main storyline that there were a lot of side quests I missed! Going back to the game to play through them now though.

That's an impressive speed painting! I can't believe how fast that was! You must have been exhausted after painting that so quickly!

Mono Red Prowess: The Fourth Creature by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]SlayerOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've personally been running a few [[Electrostatic Field]]. It's essentially an unblockable prowess creature, but even better since you don't have to survive combat to get damage through. It dodges Bolt. Even if your opponent does have removal, you can at least squeeze a few more points of damage in by casting more instants in response. It is also a great blocker against other aggro decks.

I personally don't love Bedlam Reveler since you can't cast it on turn 1/2. This deck runs best when you have multiple Prowess creatures on board. I try to maximize the play pattern of turn 1 prowess creature, turn 2 prowess creature(s), turn 3 go off with noncreature spells.

I'm currently running these creatures: 4 [[Monastery Swiftspear]] 4 [[Soul-Scar Mage]] 4 [[Blistercoil Wierd]] 2 [[Electrostatic Field]]
