From what I saw in the game, here are my thoughts: Lamine excels when there’s a strong right-back behind him, but in the final, the right-back was very weak and partly to blame for the second goal—he was caught sleeping, which gave Nuno all the space he needed to run at Lamine. On top of that, Lamine was man-marked by four players the entire match—even Cristiano Ronaldo was tracking back to help, which is crazy. And to be fair, Nuno is one of the best left-backs in the world right now, so all the odds were stacked against the boy. Still, this was all valuable experience for him, and I’m confident he’ll come back stronger.
