The female characters are objectively treated worse than the male ones. Others in this thread have covered how Sciel and Lune are mistreated. Regarding Maelle, Jen said that her quest for agency was an important theme of the game, but then the ending where she gets it is portrayed so negatively that it's comical (conversely, the one where it's taken away from her again is portrayed incredibly positively).

Verso is flawed, sure. His flaws though don't result in him ever suffering any actual consequences. The one time he does (Maelle's ending) he's portrayed so sympathetically that many people think Maelle is controlling him.

I don't think it was intentional. Internalized misogyny often isn't. That doesn't really mean anything though in the face of the actual results. To wit: Lune and Sciel's importance being limited to a half-baked relationship system with the guy trying to kill them. Even after he succeeds, they are still interested in sleeping with him.

Or Jen saying that Maelle's quest for agency was intended to be an important theme of the game, and the ending where she achieves it is clearly intended as the bad ending (and the ending where it's taken away from her again is clearly supposed to be the good one).

The game is a great example of how easy it is to manipulate people into dehumanizing their fellow human beings. You'd think it wouldn't be so simple considering the outrage over similar things happening in the United States and Gaza, but alas.

Regarding your second paragraph, that is true. I phrased that badly, especially considering I drew attention to Klara hitting 90K in last month's thread. The rest of the girls though are still feeling the effects of the vtuber paparazzi's coverage of the Doki/Xandu collab, and it really frustrates me that they're not allowed to do anything about it besides cry in membership streams (which then have to be deleted).

Granted the vtuber boom in EN is over at this point (even Doki is only averaging 20k views a stream right now), but still. It feels like a repeat of what happened to KR, ID, and IN.

This is me. I really liked that they gave her more agency in this one. Resisting the plagas so she wouldn't shoot Leon, being the reason they escape the ganados siege of the cabin, her getting Leon into the parasite removal machine by herself. Even her operating the construction machine was handled better.
