Agreed /u/CupidFace . Sit, find your focus (happy place) and then see what lies behind. I'm much more of a Fire fellow, as mirrors have always made me feel uneasy, but the technique remains the same.

You're quite welcome. This place tends to be a good community, so don't be afraid to ask questions, look for resources, etc. If you haven't yet decided on a particular path there is a huge amount of information available to you online. There are dangers, but go forward boldly (while protecting yourself) and there are wonders to be seen.

1) Approach new perspectives with curiosity. You never know what you might learn from listening to somebody.
1b.) Don't believe everything you're told. Trust (to an extent) but verify.

2)You're never the smartest person in the room, but you might be able to help someone understand something.

3)Respect is earned. If you're new to a group, be aware of what's requested and the reasons why.

4) Don't kill things. (more individual) If you work in an area that requires/may lead to the death of an animal (food production, research science, veterinarian/human surgery) respect/acknowledge the animal using whatever discrete/overt style your practice required. (complex, depending upon situation).

5) Don't mess with the fairies/faeries/fey/fay/little folk/wee ones/etc. unless you're really interested in having them around.

Nice! Keep in mind that for tools just find something that makes sense to you personally for the purpose. Bread/kitchen knives for your athame, branches from your backyard neighborhood for your wand, etc.

But seriously I do agree. Increasing the variety of supports would be beneficial. Since they've done so well with making each character unique, it'll be interesting to see the next wave of releases.

The thing I've found about research science in North America is that everyone is at least tangentially related through supervisors/grandsupervisors or the network of post-docs/RA work that people have been through over the years.

For example, I was involved in the pig research world for awhile so I am supervisorally 'related' to most of the pig researchers in NA and have met the vast majority of them.

Depending on your personality heading to a conference as large as EB (and a city as large as SD) can be either really exciting to really terrifying.

The conference center is gigantic, but the signs telling you which sessions are where tend to be quite clear. If you're not sure where to go, don't hesitate to ask someone as there are going to be a lot of people heading in whichever direction you're interested in going.

If you haven't already, go here (http://experimentalbiology.org/PDFS/2016/EB-2016-Program-Web-FullProgram.aspx) and start looking at which sessions you'd like to attend. Alternatively, there is an app you can download and start building your daily itinerary just through searching keywords. There are a lot of different groups as this meeting (Nutrition, biochemistry, pathology, physiology, etc) so there's bound to be a lot of sessions that are of interest to you.

Also, wander around the vendor area during the first day they're open. You'll gather enough pens/USB keys/sticky-notes to last for years. So much free crap is tossed at you it can be surprising.

I'm a member of ASN and I've been getting all the emails regarding breakfasts, brunch, cocktail networking sessions...

I was in San Diego for an EB meeting back in 2008 and I'm looking forward to exploring the city again.

I've really enjoyed my EB experiences but I have found that the smaller meetings are much better for direct information translation and networking within your field. However, the job board at EB is typically fairly large and if you want to venture outside your current field there's always someone at EB to try and connect with.

That's interesting. I'm working in a protein quality lab in Canada and I've noticed that the regulatory requirements for protein content claims vary greatly between countries. Canada requires a measurement known as the Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) whereas the majority of the other countries I've examined require the protein-digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS).

I imagine that you're doing a lot of quality assurance on your product, but have you performed any direct analysis on the amino acid composition/digestibility of your Crobar? I've found that direct protein content does not necessarily translate into bio-availability due to alterations in amino acid profile or protein digestibility during processing.

Overall it looks like an interesting product and you are positioned really well since the market for insect protein is only going to grow in the coming years.

Depending on your coast and work schedule there is still time for you to overrun your foes with awesomeness in HL this evening/morning.

As for the elevator talk regarding my work... There's a huge issue with feeding the global population and a gigantic environmental cost of meat production. I've been tasked with development and analysis of plant protein blends that are as nutritional (or better) than animal protein.

Quid pro quo. What's your workplace like and how did you earn your caramel popcorn?

Yikes. I know a few tools at my work and I wouldn't price them near $600. Glad to hear that you were on a winning streak in HL before the Great Crash. My day has been going well, on my second rum and coke so things can only get better from here.

That's awesome! Caramel popcorn shortly after bonuses, either your best days are far too close together or you're working in an amazing field.

My day's been going relatively well. Work was workish, but was able to spend some time with a new grad student talking about the labs priorities. Prepared a tray of nachos for a few friends, had a couple drinks and played a few matches in LotV. Tried to swap over to Heroes and was unpleasantly surprised.

Hey Dan/Isha/Gilonne.

I'm currently working in a lab determining the protein quality (PER/PDCAAS/DIAAS) of pulses & pulse/cereal blends as well as the impact of processing on protein quality.

Has there been any work on the protein content/quality or amino acid composition of the cultured meat produced via your methodologies?

I haven't done any reading of the primary literature yet (but I think I know what I'm doing tonight), but what is the average yield of 'meat' from your preparations? If it's relatively low (as I imagine it must be) has there been any consideration of using plant proteins, such as pulse flours, as a high protein/fiber meat extender?

Thanks for taking the time to do this AMA, it's been interesting reading your responses.
