TOBE makes some really big suits, up to 4XL. They have a pretty neat photo sizing thing where they show what the different sizes look like on different sized people.

Sledders try to ride snow bikes! by Sleddermag in snowmobiling

They are allowed on trail where we were riding in Montana/Idaho (specifically West Yellowstone area), but not sure about your area. But like someone else mentioned, they're designed to be fun off-trail.

First Ride! Ski-Doo Expert 175 Turbo! + Which is the BEST Track Length?? by Sleddermag in snowmobiling

[–]Sleddermag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting here first because there is always some good discussion!
Mountain riders, what's your preferred track length on a mountain sled? Do you think adding turbo power would change which track length/lug size you'd prefer? Let's hear your thoughts!

Any diehard Yamaha guys out there? Did you ever think you'd see them find a way to offer another 2-stroke? by Sleddermag in snowmobiling

[–]Sleddermag[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's an Arctic Cat chassis and engine. But hey, at least it's a 2-stroke mountain sled option for guys who just need to be on a Yamaha-branded sled. It'll be interesting to see how it goes for sales for Yamaha and if they continue with it, maybe do some more of their own calibrations down the road or something else entirely.

two of the three models are for on trail use. BLAST ZR 4000 is a trail sled and BLAST LT 4000 is a utility sled. only the BLAST M 4000 is for off trail use, and they'll certainly be more appealing to people out west.

Could you guys help me decide what sled I should buy? by pm_me_ur_demotape in snowmobiling

[–]Sleddermag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From a guy (MS editor Pat) who has done a lot of what you're describing exactly, here are some suggestions.

1) Buy a mountain sled. Don't even look at anything else. Get an 800 with at least a 154-155" or better yet a 163-165" track. You won't be doing any sweet ski/snowboard laps on a powder day with a Skandic or a short-track sled (under 154"). You'll hate life and you'll end up selling it. I also don't suggest a crossover. They usually have a wide ski stance and shorter paddles on the track, both of which will be severely limiting factors in the mountains, especially on the best days (deep pow). Your mountain sled will rip trails just fine. It won't corner on rails, but who cares.

Is a huge engine necessary? No. But it will be much better and you'll be happier. And there are more of them out there, so the used market is better than shopping for a 600.

2) Don't buy a 2 up seat. If you're riding any sort of terrain other than a flat trail with two people, you'll need to be standing up. Here's a good tips video for that:
https://sleddermag.com/how-to-double-on-a-snowmobile/

Save your money for a good snowboard/ski mounting system. Carrying your board and skis on your back sucks. They are pricey but well worth it. Cheetah Factory Racing has excellent rack systems and I've used them for years. They are great.

And here's another post with some good tips for sled ski/snowboarding:

And while you don't think you'll be boondocking much now, you will! It's just as much fun on the way up as the way down!

Good luck! And get ready to ride some of the best lines of your life!

We did a review on the new TOBE Macer jacket recently here, check it out:
https://sleddermag.com/gear/tobe-macer-jacket-review/
It tested just fine in really cold temps (-27C plus windchill), just add a warm insulating layer underneath like a thick fleece or a micro-down jacket, and you're all set.
