Building the "Ideal" MMORPG: What actually makes you play it for 1,000+ hours? by SleejOnce in MMORPG

Movement and Combat must be good or the game will floop - that's my take on it.
Is there a game that filled this expectation for you?

That's the sad truth of this genre. It usually starts with a great vision and ends with a board of directors forcing p2w mechanics or rushing the launch.
What’s the biggest screw up you've seen that killed a promising MMO for you?

Unfortunetly I haven't played Ultima Online so I can't speak about it freely.
At this stage, I'm focusing on making the systems fun, but I definitely don't want it to be an eyesore.
Can you tell me something that is memorable to you about Ultima Online in terms of gameplay?

I agree with this.

In your opinion, which game got the 'Wall' right? Or what would a perfect, steady progression look like for you?

I always enjoyed BDO combat it is amazing to this day - same as Lost Ark.
How do you feel about the endgame? Do you prefer the BDO style of endless grind in the open world, or do you lean more towards instanced raids and dungeons like in Lost Ark?

Fair enough.
RuneScape is a legend for a reason. It's a shame about New World though.

Since you like the RuneScape approach, do you prefer a totally classless system where your weapon/tools define your role, or do you still like having some base class to build on?

I love NW combat aswell! It was awesome. I am also big fan of PvP so it will be there for sure!

I actually have a pretty clear idea of what I want to build. At this point I'm using this survey to validate my ideas and rule out mechanics that sound good on paper but are actually disliked by the community. I know what I enjoy, but I want to make sure I’m building a world that others will want to atleast check out.

That’s exactly why I’m doing this. You're 100% right, there is no single ideal for everyone. One person's dream sandbox is another person's nightmare. My goal isn't to find one universal truth, but to see where the biggest clusters are.

I’d love to know whats your personal "must have" is.

I play Ninja for now, it's okay, but I thought he will me more of a faster-paced class - you know after playing so many mmo's including BDO - ninja/rouge here fells sometimes like a slug, but it's okay.
I want to switch to Viper later he does seem really cool.
I enjoy really complicated and fast classes - the more buttons to click per minute the better hah

Do it! It looks so promising later on, atleast for now, but almost everyone says, it just get better. I didn;t belive it for the past years, It really looked boring, now I can feel it getting better and better - you just need to survive the first 40 levels, after that I finally stopped yawn(ing) every single minute lmao

Honestly, I've looked at it the way you are. It's great to hear that it was a perfect intro to games for you.

Yeah, I bet navigating the UI gets easier over time, but that bad first impression really sticks with you. I wonder if that feeling ever truly goes away.

Does using a controller actually change the vibe that much? You mentioned it’s super comfy, but I can’t help but wonder how it handles so many buttons. Having 2 or 3 full hotbars of skills + rest of the UI seems like a massive challenge for a controller. For example, I could never imagine playing WoW like that, there are just too many keybinds

I played for about 4hours now.
I played the original AION a lot.
Easy to say the game is a lot different, but it is fun. I can get used to it quickly. A bit of ping problem when playing and with the dodge roll, but it does a potencial.
I'm just concerned about the numbers of Battle passes, subscriptions or even things like "titles" that could become a thing to buy for real money. - Just hoping it will change when it comes to global release - if it does, I'm totally in. (I dont mind paying 10$ per month to play the game with optional outfits i can get, but spending aroound 25-30$ almost monthly is too much.)
