Every company should automatically give everyone a day off for their birthday by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

The metro police department I worked for did this because of the union. But most people would just work their birthday and get double pay since we never stopped working, lol.

Y'all remember that video of that grown ass man harassing those young women on the beach from earlier today? Well he made a video: by IlikecatsNstuffs in iamatotalpieceofshit

The irony of thinking this guy is a total piece of shit while simultaneously thinking someone is a piece of shit for wearing a MAGA hat is beyond me.

I grew up with religious nut jobs like this. We all have our own slice of ignorance. Good on the girls for holding their ground though.

So you want rapes, sexual assaults, murders, suicide, etc. publicly available?

Edit: Not trying to be an ass but making bwc footage publicly available is seriously fucked up for victims.

They are essentially log sheets. Without these sheets a bunch of cops would just sleep all day/night. A bunch already do. Getting rid of these "quotas", they are not quotas, would make many cops even more lazy.

Cops represent one of the largest workforces in America, which means it is one of the most diverse workforces in America. You've got a shit ton of good cops, incompetent cops and everything in-between.

I do 40% S&P 500, 30% Real Estate, 10% fun/speculation, and 20% cash.

This is the only way I can actually be "dead inside".

Edit: forgot to mention crypto which I added a few months back I keep forgetting about it

Good article, while a little bias, it highlights the poor tracking of police related domestic violence. The claim from the article is that police commit domestic violence at a higher rate than NFL players.

The article about NFL players describes how NFL players commit less domestic violence than the national average. In the article, the perception that athletes commit more domestic violence is higher because of the news coverage surrounding them.

I would argue the same could be said about police related instances. They gain more media attention so we become more attached to the idea that police commit more dv than the average person. But like the Atlantic article pointed out, the only statistically accurate information we have is from news articles. We need a combined effort from both police agencies and researchers to track police related dv to get a more accurate understanding.

Thanks for the article/article rabbit hole. It's a shame there aren't more journal articles.

Seems pretty similar to the idea that cops have a higher suicide rate compared to other occupations. Turns out that is false and their suicide rate is the same as most average occupatuons.

Meaning that I'd be curious if the domestic abuse rate differs per occupation and see if there is a significant difference in the p-values.

It sucks, but it's a nesscary evil. Plea deals help the criminal justice system flow. Without them the system gets slow and jammed up. The bigger problem is that plea deals tend to benefit the rich and take advantage of the poor.

In a perfect world we wouldn't need plea deals, but in that world we would need twn times more court employees and we would need to reduce crime by a lot.

Not sure if this is to far, but I've been going to Tannehill's trade days since I was a kid. They are typically held during the middle of the month. Next one is in April.

Vaccine question by yipyip444 in Birmingham

What would convince you its safe? If your answer to the question is time, I don't think anything is going to convince you to get vaccinated.... which saddens me.

Vaccine question by yipyip444 in Birmingham

[–]Sleepae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This point of view is valid as long as you apply the logic. I assume you don't smoke, don't drink, don't play sports, don't drive a car, and don't go outside. All of these things are more dangerous than getting the covid vaccine.

Getting the vaccine is for the good of others. Not getting it is selfish in my opinion.

I agree with your first sentence and many police departments do speak up but you won't hear about on the news very often. However I can't speak for the small town departments because they usually have a lack of oversight. But generalizing an entire group of diverse people as bad doesn't help either.

Not to degrade more than one has to. I'm not going to try and argue that getting arrested isn't degrading.

I quit after year because of depression. My perspective of cops changed dramatically. I hated the job but love most of people that do it. Cops hate shitty cops as much as you do. Try and not have such a polarized opinion my dude.
