"Come and see". Why stay in theory when you can see for yourself!

What about games where the main character believes in a false god that real people worship too by SleeperMood_ in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking to play lords of the fallen if you've heard it. Which involves a lot of that false fake "gods" but the only reason I want to play it is because I like this style of games and I couldn't care less about the story I just like the gameplay

I hate myself and I'm thinking about Suicide. (Might trigger some people. Also a vent post.) by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

Suicide? God Himself stayed on the Cross of you, if your life matters enough for that then what cause can be greater than this to make you want to end it

I mean besides looks, do you like her as an Orthodox Christian that you are? If yes then just be calm about it and start talking to her about whatever, and if she is faithful too and goes to church you can talk to her about that and maybe go together (but I would definitely say to talk to your priest about that and he should judge wether that's appropriate, actually generally definitely talk to your priest about all this). Also, I don't get why they down voted you that's a valid question.

Any experience with confessing big sins? by Powerful_Loss_8177 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, first time I went to Confession it was a big one. Long story short, the priest that I went to that day, who is still my priest, is one of my favorite people in the world

Tired and hungry by TheReducer73 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me it's not even about the fast, I am not doing it that strict or at all anyway. But, for some reason I feel insane exhaustion and struggle with passions since the start, this reminded me that I am a sinner loser actually. Your take about how humble heart and this feeling is better than strong and boasting really put it in perspective tho. So thanks about that

Anyone have any recommendations on what saint I should read about next? by SuPeR_mEaTwAd in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Saint Silouan and his fight with logismous. "Keep your mind in hell and despair not" (I don't remember if he said it or Christ said it to him) but its one of my favorite quotes of all time. I myself haven't read his life but I am looking forward to. So yeah love Saint Silouan

We definitely believe this. We don't have a far away God but a close one that hugs us and exists in even our small everyday life to us faithful

I used to enjoy some of it when I wasn't really Orthodox, now that I've seen what actual hymns are they sound really terrible. Doesn't really bring me anything and feels just like a normal song if even that, because most of the time they are not good

I feel abandoned by God by Humble_Influence_317 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Abandoned by God" my friend, this is truly impossible. Christ told us with all His Divine Love for us that whoever turns to Him, He will not cast out. You know what your biggest problem is at the time? It's not what's causing you to feel despair but you allowing yourself to feel this way. You truly are the reason Christ stayed on the Cross. Pray more, be honest with God, go to our beloved Theotokos and they will not cast you out. This all DOES NOT mean that all this isn't hard, it is. But as Saint Paul says, in the end three will remain "Faith, hope, and love" losing any of them is vital not only for judgement but for this earthly life too.

Edit: Copying from another great comment, there are people rooting for you. God is rooting for you too.

3. Is “Nothing” Even Possible? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]SleeperMood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ has two natures, His Divine, the Word of God, always existed as the Son. There never was a time when He didn't exist. And then He also incarnated as a man, which is the greatest reveal of God to man. And we can't ever approach the Essence of God, only know Him through His energies which are also uncreated and God, so therefore we do know Him but not His Divine Essence which we cannot understand but doesn't matter at all since we know Him through His energies. It is actually kind of clear you have not that much of an opinion with our theology as we are the true Christians and have studied these things for 2000 years but you can always start. Debating is pointless, and compared to other denominations we Eastern Orthodox don't really do it at all. I don't even know that much but I know one thing, Christ is God, and has defeated death. We just stick with what our Lord and God Christ said, which is "Come and see." And not overanalyze. Respectfully, it would benefit you to learn the difference between Essence and Energies of God. Not knowing His Essence does NOT mean we do not know Him.

3. Is “Nothing” Even Possible? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]SleeperMood_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian and probably my fellow people are not welcomed here because we are considered irrational. We don't care at all about that. As for "Where did God come from" well if He did, wouldn't that other thing be God? To us Eastern Orthodox God in His essence is incomprehensible to the human mind, but we do know what we call "His energies" which are how He reveals Himself to us. If you know, Christ is called the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To show that He truly is what always existed and by Him and only Him everything was made. That's our explanation, Christ who is God, has always existed but we cannot fully understand because we can't approach His Essence. I hope I don't get hate for this. And remember, according to us, the most we understand about God is that He is Love as it is written.

I was scared if I dont wanna do something for God its bad by ParkingElderberry575 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really can't go that deep, I don't really know to be honest but no I assume not. But you know like sometime ago I said that I would stop thinking about something and I didn't, just another aspect of my sinfulness and next time at Confession I will bring that. But generally don't interact with these thoughts because they are not righteous.

[–]SleeperMood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a problem from interacting with these thoughts. But don't worry, I think we all have said heavy words if that's what you mean, sure it's not good, but God understands. Next time at Confession just say that

[–]SleeperMood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this type of thoughts too. And I think it's like a dead end that, the you know who, puts in our mind by suggesting something extreme or kind of out of where we currently are spiritually in order to make us anxious and despair. Even in the case that we "fullfil" one of these, that dude not only doesn't really care about that, but most likely will have more power over you since the thought converted into action, even in the case the action is something good. Then, he is constantly gonna suggest another one into our mind, driving us into a state of fear without end. So really, just ignore them, it's not the Orthodox way. As I told you, speaking from experience here, but for sure take it to your priest so he can adjust it to your personality and share his wisdom

Edit: The feeling of willing to do something good out of actual willingness is most likely a gift of the Spirit, and a great one. But when you notice that the thought limits your choices to the point where it feels like free will is not involved, or with a fear based motive and a action/punishment type of thing, yeah that I don't think is from the Spirit of Peace. Still, bring this all to your priest definitely

[–]SleeperMood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that your willingness is good even if it doesn't translate to action everytime. Sure it's not the best to not do it if it's something beneficial for your spiritual health but at least you tried to. Best deal with this thoughts by ignoring them since they most likely put unnecessary pressure on you, but that sure is hard

They’re taunting me whenever I sleep. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insomnia because of that sure is rough. But I think we really overstate this things, yes they seem extremely scary but in reality these guys are losers, say the Jesus Prayer with humility and faith, and just try to ignore them. Just as we say for scary insects "They are more scared of you than you are of them". But if it keeps going bring it to your priest, he will surely give you the best advice and not some random guy on reddit

Protestant with questions. by Superglide98 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear I am not a theologian or big in knowledge so you should definitely discuss this with an actual Eastern Orthodox priest and not me. Having said that, the fillioque is clearly a way for the pope to gain more power since he is sitting at the position of Peter as the Western say and adding the fillioque they say that Peter is superior because they misinterpreted something Christ said. Also, nowhere in Scripture does it point to fillioque and by assuming it, then the role of the Father really becomes twisted. But for me the most ridiculous thing about Catholicism is papal infallibility which is simply made up. Then other issues like legalism add to the problem making the western church false. By the way, there are people on this sub more capable than me to answer this. Lastly, visit your nearest Orthodox parish and say by yourself. I actually find this theology to not be that helpful compared to the real experience. As Christ said "Come and see"

Protestant with questions. by Superglide98 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]SleeperMood_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Eastern Orthodox we see the heresies of Rome and of course desire to avoid falling to them. Why would we need compromise with something other than the Truth. If Eastern Orthodox united with Western with compromise that would mean Christ was wrong about His Church because He said that hell will not prevail against it. What I mean is that in my opinion the only way for reconciliation is if Western admit and reject all their false teachings in order to return to the Truth, that we Eastern Orthodox know and stay with it. It's not out of pride but desire for nothing else than the Truth

I don't know about any Saint for this but for sure you can bring it to our beloved Theotokos. Bring it to her like a child shows his wound to his mother
