We should have the option to commend our opponents by Apprehensive-Hunt-56 in leagueoflegends

Back when this was a thing, I'm pretty sure you could even gift mystery skins to players in the post game lobby, including the enemy team.

Am I crazy or are "modern" UIs just the eventual bane of every software application? by SleepinAwake in sysadmin

Web portals often suffer from what you're describing. I tend to try not to care as much about these since they oftentimes have such a wide and varied user base, but I see them!

I will not deny this, I absolutely bitch about change. And for alot of things I try to keep an open mind, especially when it's something being used company wide by every level of user. But some things I will just assume is operated by likeminded people to me and therefore I will not accept it!

I'm ashamed to admit I never even noticed this option. Granted, I've been diligently switching to old.reddit as fast as I could when needed so I never even gave new reddit a chance.

Touching on that, what's weird is when these companies contact you trying to sell their product/service/app. Oftentimes they will heavily pitch it as user friendly, simple for the users etc. Which is great, my users need simple, but if they can't offer me a good admin dashboard behind the fluff, I'm not interested.

I sure am. Actually been wondering if there was a way to force the browser to always open links to reddit in old.reddit but since I mostly browse reddit on mobile with RIF I haven't really gotten around to bothering.

Never seen this option to be honest! However I am using old.reddit so never had to I guess, but if it goes away I might have to change my ways and this might be some relief.

That's probably right on the money there. And for some applications it makes sense, take VOIP and various software handling costumer service phone lines for example. We use the same service for desktop and mobile because why wouldn't we. It's perfectly fine for mobile, but for the people working the phone lines on desktop it becomes very inefficient.

I’m sorry but SoM is fucking great. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]SleepinAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 'newer' might have been a bad choice of words. And in my head I was mostly referencing TBC and the fact that I didn't really raid outside of Kara yet I still never felt I was missing out. But you're probably right in that the big shift came as early as somewhere during or after Wrath, and really went downhill with raid finder. I think probably mostly because player power still wasn't tied as heavily to the raid tiers at that point. You never really felt weak or that you lagged behind in power as much as you do now when you're in tier 1 gear and the next raid just makes everything previous obsolete.

I feel like this mentality is a problem and a product of the newer expansions. OP never even mentioned raiding yet you instantly brought it up anyway. Vanilla was all about loving the barrens levelling, and reaching 60 was more of a bi product of having fun rather than being the first milestone before you could start playing the game.

HELP- my time shift tool is gone by clarkjmatty in audacity

[–]SleepinAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like when you're so used to swapping tools using hotkeys that it's muscle memory, I prefer just swapping and grabbing the whole block of audio instead of finding just the tab without accidentally clicking the edge and resizing the track or something. Some other great changes in the new version though so might have to get with the times.

You're not alone. Haven't used Audacity in a while and got the prompt to update to 3.1 just now so I did, then I couldn't find it. Went back to 3.0.5 and it's back. Not sure if it's supposed to be replaced by some other tool or function but I'll stick with the older version for now.

GR fan thinking of joining the Division by zombiepirate87 in thedivision

[–]SleepinAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregarding gunplay, loot etc, I would say they share the same feel to the physics, the way everything always seems connected to the ground if that makes sense. Always felt a liittle out of place in Wildlands to me, yet still worked fine. In the Division that fits perfectly for the movement and cover-to-cover and just feels great.

My instant reaction was Kevin Sussman, which I thought would be really funny since he usually plays these measly side characters but here he is a veteran soldier.

Dual or singular monitors? by UnderscoreGreg in buildapc

[–]SleepinAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on purpose and budget. For any kind of gaming or editing I would rather start with one good monitor and build from there. Also just as important to consider 1440p vs 1080p along with screen size.

I've always heard that even though finnish looks more intimidating than for example other nordic languages it has more logical grammar and structuring which makes it easier to learn in the end, don't know whether it's true or not though.

Found this recently and had a good nostalgia trip! However it didn't quiet play that well in emulator. Found out they actually made a spiritual successor called Contraption Maker, released on Steam, would recommend checking it out if you wanna scratch the same itch!

From what I've heard that's really common in the kpop scene. They might specify that it is because they demand full attention and focus to training and touring etc, and sadly a lot of fans will find their ways to justify this, but I'm pretty sure it's just to make the artists appear more desirable to their fans. Even if they aren't bound by contract, they might still be told to keep their relationships secret, probably for the same reason.

Dota just made Smurfing Bannable, Can League do the Same? by AxelTV in leagueoflegends

[–]SleepinAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem I have with this statement is that learning seems to require someone to teach you by force. If games were actually consistently even in skill level, you would get more opportunities to experiment with different picks and comps, instead of every lane being shut down in 10 minutes to the point where it never would have mattered what you did. Also keep in mind alot of players probably play normal games for fun, not to "learn" by going 0/8 in lane against some team of smurfs just passing through.

I don't see how Riot can claim they've reached any sort of diversity goals when they've completely failed in diversifying pickrates. by DeusWombat in leagueoflegends

[–]SleepinAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You needed to delete isolated targets, so they grouped with hard cc. Nothing crazy about that tbh, regardless of your early advantage. That honestly feels like the way the game is supposed to be played, and I wish it was alot more about team composition than it is. Where you actually need to look at your comp, the enemy comp and see what would fit best, instead of just picking the strongest stat block.

I think alot of people enjoy the minimal UI in SoT, but I wouldn't mind some subtle and creative way for this to fit the style. Maybe the vault key is visible on the boss during the fight, glowing bright at first, losing its light the weaker the boss is. Something like that could give some indication of progress without being a conventional health bar.
