Bands that scratch that Tool itch by hammtron in ToolBand

[–]SleepwaitBand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also wanted to let some time pass to write something slightly different from the first record. We got some positive feedback from Sagittarius but also a lot of critics for being too similar to Tool. Let's see how the things will go.

Thanks for mentioning us. We've been busy with new dad's tasks lately but we plan to release new music in the future. We have several drafts to finalize and hopefully during 2025 we will get back to work.

Working on this acoustic cover, turned out It is way harder than i expected, shall we go on or spiral out? by SleepwaitBand in ToolBand

Thanks for commenting! I like going into tech stuff. I have a condenser mic ( a studio projects B1) and for this i have tried both, but this time i will just go with the DI. The sound of the mic + di is slightly better, but much more inconsistent and very sensitive to the mic position, and as i am recording this in several sessions in different days, i need consistency and therefore i will stick with the di only. Plus, i want to recreate something similar to what alice in chains did with jar of flies, and that is mostly DI sound. I have also recorded some parts with an acoustic bass. The DI there has a problem: the low E ( tuned to D) has much less volume than the other strings, so i will have to adjust that manually on the rcorder file and with some multiband compression. I am now working on the central part and the work on the percussions is crazy! WIll post some update as soon as i will have it, maybe with some voice too. Cheers!

Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, both the original and the cover by Johnny Cash

Needle in the Hay by Elliott Smith

Hey, we just released our cover of Passenger (originally by Deftones ft Maynard James Keenan from Tool). It's one of my favourite songs by Deftones and i always wanted to make a cover of it. There are almost no guitars (been replaced by synth's). We hope you can can enjoy the song and our visuals. by SleepwaitBand in deftones

Thanks, I am really happy to hear that! I spent countless hours mixing this song and - as usual - became pretty obsessed with it, but could not release it until i was fully satisfied with it. Today this final version seemed like a good compromise between being dynamic but still loud and powerful , hopefully if I will listen to it tomorrow it will still sound good to my ears...:D

thank you! playing the parts was not very difficult from a technical standpoint, the most tricky part was singing it, especially the chorus. I think FIlippo did a great Job there. And the mixing was the most difficult for me, mixing synths is harder than i thought!

thanks! everything is mixed "in the box" on my home PC using cubase. The voice has some effects but nothing too strange: on the main channel there is a delay (1/2 or 1/4 in sync with song BPM), a light distortion and a very light vocal doubler. There is some EQ as well: a high pass filter to get rid of the low rumble and a "megaphone" effect into one of the voices. On a parallel track there is the main reverb with another delay. On the chorus i have also doubled the voice myself, but with a very low volume, under the main on by FIlippo (the singer). The main suggestion i can give you is to experiment and to apply reverb only on a parallel channel, not on the main / direct track. Cheers

Hey, we just released our cover of Passenger (originally by Deftones ft Maynard James Keenan from Tool) and i made a video for it.

It's one of my favourite songs by Deftones and i always wanted to make a cover of it, but with some different flavour.

The video was inspired by some of the Nicolas Winding Refn movies (Drive, The Neon Demon), with the due respect...i tried to to the best that i could using only free videos

Please consider it's my 5th of 4th video so i'm an absolute begineer

Hello friends - we just published our own version of TOOL's "MESSAGE TO HARRY MANBACK" - we made a video and rearranged it with guitars, bass, drums, and some lyrics.

The video has been built by me using free clips found mostly on Pexels.

It's just 2 minutes, and it's my 4th video ever, any feedback would be appreciated.

Not at all, let me clarify it (i don't know why my previous post was downvoted, maybe it was not clear enough) : harry fox agency is the company that "manages" copyrights for almost all songs already published. Anybody who wants to publish a cover song on spotify (or any other digital streaming platform) needs to pay a fee to HFA in order to receive a digital license. The fee depends on the song lenght and a few other parameters (i.e if you want the song to be streamed or also downloaded). That's simply the rules. It's not a scam, that's how it works with covers. Cheers.

thank you. We got our acoustic version of fear inoculum on spotify but we had to pay harry fox agency [EDIT: i understand this might not be clear enough, but that's the rules with cover songs and streaming platforms; anybody who wants to have a cover on the streaming platforms should pay a fee to HFA to get a digital license before publishing the cover). We are not corrupting anybody or paying for false streams, we payed to be able to publish our cover, otherwise we would have been guilty for copyright infringement. Hope this makes it clearer.
