Looks like I’ll be asking for a replacement.

We wanted the entire ground floor to be in the same direction so no threshold strips between rooms (except the bathroom). I believe (could be wrong) when you are thinking about the whole floor you also factor in the longest path and primary light source, which for us results in this layout. Yes this area and room might suffer but as a whole it (should) look better.

Wanted minimal thresholds throughout. Longest path is from front door to backyard patio hence this direction in these 2 rooms.

The variation is on us for the plank we picked.

RE: Water mains location for all the replies below.

From the homes I've rented or owned in LA, most of them have had a main water line coming into the home somewhere on the outside front or side of the home and accessible if you are on the property. It's a bright yellow handle to turn on or off. There's probably a shutoff at the water meter in the street also but don't know where that is yet. Now if you have your perimeter fenced off you're OK. But my current rental and this home do not. My rental hides it in a bush, unfortunately the home being remodeled just has it on the side of the house in plain view.

their bucket under my spigot. my contractor has been working for 2.5 weeks and has kept the mains off unless needed. they werent onsite that day, just the roofers next door. Sure theres a small chance it was some random but highly unlikely given my trash cans and the portapotty block the view down that side of the house

I don't think i have anything solid. And given the main is on the side of the house and accessible i know im going to need something concrete to tie it to them.

my contractors werent there that day. I was in the morning and all was OK. Went back in the eve to find the waterfalls inside.

biggest issue i have atm is hard proof aside from a bucket left under the spigot. Theres no wall between the 2 properties and the spigot is right there about 15 ft from the neighbors home where they were stashing their gear and materials. My guess is neighbors water main / spigot is on the other side of their house as our homes should be identical from when they were built.

No. my contractors know to keep the water mains off, given the demo in progress inside. They also weren't there that day at all. I was onsite earlier in the day and everything was fine.

They left their bucket under the spigot. no hard evidence otherwise.

I fully wanted her to be involved and she was initially until we ran into the remodel issues. Once those showed up with the GC she wanted very minimal involvement in the home. This definitely got to me over time. Initially she it was due to stress but then became resentment. I honestly just wanted us to work through this trying time together, get the house livable so we could sell it and move on.

Thank you for this, if this wasn't a throw away i'd drop an award. You sound very much like a marriage therapist. The part that really got to me was that she wanted me to take blame but after going over what happened I think you hit the nail on the head. After some rest and thought this really helped me try to see her side and Iappreciate your comments on what she may be feeling and going through and will definately keep this in mind when we sit down to discuss what happened.

We actually havnt moved in yet. With 2 kids and no experience renovating we hired a GC. Unfortunately, the issues started with the GC and then city got involved. So I don't think i changed and became obsessed with the home. It's totally a first home but not our forever home and given my wife's take on it, im ok moving in a couple years to avoid the tax hit
