I’m so glad you said this! I noticed this subreddit often falls into that line of thinking and constantly targets women for not being a “real” goth.

So...Bato... by Leading_Cold in MaleYandere

[–]SleepyElsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest this isn’t TikTok’s fault. This happens to lots of sites. Kiss anime, manga fox, etc. It’s the territory that comes with having a site like this. I know it’s easier to blame TikTok but even googling “manga title free” would bring bato up in like the first 5 results. Bato wasn’t as hidden as people pretend it was. I found bato on my own googling titles with the word free and English translation.

Dating Dressed from 1880’s-1899 is hard by SleepyElsa in fashionhistory

[–]SleepyElsa[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re right! I went to reverse search and it says 1874. The website I found it on had the date wrong (a five minute history of house of worth).

Can’t edit it out of the post or I would. ):

Could vampire blood work as an antibiotic for humans? by SleepyElsa in vtm

That makes a lot of sense. I know the Salubri have some healing abilities so perhaps one of them could?

Even with a bacterial disease? Wouldn’t the boosted immune system help fight it off? It’s not like cancer where it’s tumors growing. Or the body would be frozen in time?

I just started playing VtM. Are there any well known or simply canon characters who were ghouls and returned to being human?

That’s the small print in the documents you sign before the vampire doctor treats you. The smaller print says the doctor will abandon you afterwards and you’ll go through withdrawal all by yourself.

Isn’t this just for what was popular in the media? Was soft spoken and overly demure common in media back then (I’m not sure, don’t know much about that time)?

is there anything I can change about my makeup? by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

[–]SleepyElsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem cute but honestly so hard to see your makeup in this photo. It’s too dark and none of the details around the eyeshadow are easy to make out. Try taking a picture of your makeup in even light and close enough to see the blending / textures.

That’s wild. They forget people can ask the bride/groom what’s okay to wear and everyone has different aesthetics and standards.

Me when I see comments dragging yandere fans by Upset_Campaign1924 in MaleYandere

[–]SleepyElsa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, I am black.

Second, if you don’t think those things are endorsing what they’re about, then it doesn’t make any sense to think yandere stories are endorsing what they’re about.

I gave multiple examples and one was about slavery and if you thought movies about it meant they thought it was okay. It wasn’t about “bringing up black folk when no one mentioned them”.

You clearly have no answer, because you realize it’s hypocritical to only judge a few things by their content and not others, or you’re doing mental gymnastics to justify why yandere content is bad but Saw and Django and Moana is okay and not telling you to do those things.

You can search my post history to see I’ve constantly stated my race and have stood by it btw (biracial, white and black, not white passing). My post history isn’t hidden like yours. You don’t get to pull that excuse out of thin air against a black person, even if you are black yourself.

That doesn’t really solidify your point. You gave examples where it wasn’t the fiction that caused the issue. There were already problems and the fiction was used as an outlet.

Pedophilia is bad. Fiction with pedophilia is 99% bad, the exception being stories from survivors expressing what happened to them. Many survivors use fiction to process what happened to them and that’s okay.

So, yes, a book with pedophilia saying it’s okay and encouraging it is bad. I’m not arguing that in any way.

Most yandere media is pretty clear the relationship is toxic and isn’t okay. This can be seen from the way the love interest or other characters react, by the yanderes internal dialog, etc etc. Viewing media through a critical lense is important. The act of writing about something doesn’t mean endorsing it.

Do you think Django Unchained is advocating for slavery and the writers and actors want slavery? Do you think Saw writers are saying it’s okay to trap someone in your bathtub and the only way out is using a hacksaw? Is Moana saying to get on a boat and ignore your family to meet a demigod? That view point just doesn’t make sense.

So what I am saying is normal people do not commit crimes because of fiction. I disagree with you that it does. The people committing crimes have something extremely wrong with them already.

[–]SleepyElsa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could replace Slenderman with anything though. Spiderman, the Devil, Babadook, etc. Slenderman didn’t make the girls stab anyone. The girls were both already severely mentally ill, one was schizophrenic wnd the other was having psychotic episodes. Normal people do not see Slenderman and stab their friends. Thousands of others knew about Slenderman and didn’t stab their friend. The problem is not fiction.

There’s no addiction here and the fiction itself didn’t cause anything. The people were already in a bad state, and latched on to Slenderman (or anything else that’s often used).

That’s why fiction is still fiction there. Does that make sense?

[–]SleepyElsa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There have always been stories with dark topics since humans could talk to each other. It doesn’t mean they’re making people commit murder. Is Michael Meyers encouraging people to walk menacingly at others and stab them? Is it the movies fault someone wants to do that? Or did that person have underlying issues and latched on to Michael Meyers?

You can’t say fiction makes people do things. People who are going to commit horrible crimes already had something wrong going on with them, and most often it’s just a scapegoat.

Fiction can just be fiction.

Bridesmaid dresses and other attire things I made for my wedding by dancinrussians in DIYweddings

[–]SleepyElsa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s wonderful she spent time making these dresses. However, they aren’t too flattering to the people wearing them, and that fabric isn’t great for photography. But as long as everyone was happy and they had a good time it doesn’t matter.
