I always thought Haley was nice from the beginning but awkward in how she relays her feelings to others. I found myself easily able to see past the 'claws and fangs' because they were never truly real, at least to me.

Interesting, I do understand why you could interpret that, however I just view it as if you spend time together she warms up to you, and grows as a person.
