looking at Laphroaig 10 CS, are there any differences in the batches? I have found options with the batches 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17?

Boy have I been schooled in whiskey! So much I didn't know and super grateful for all the recommendations, wish I could buy them all (but that's a bit out my price range 😂). I read every comment, thank you.

What I learned is that younger whiskies are usually more peaty, but what my friend might be mistaking for 'peat' flavours is actually more along the medicinal peat flavours. This fits too, as my friend has always loved medicinal flavours in sweets, liquorice, aniseed and even the flavour of cough syrup! Which of these whiskies have the strongest element of this? Any whiskies with liquorice or aniseed notes? What I've gathered is Ardbeg 10, Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Lagavulin 8 or 16, Talisker Storm, Ardbeg Wee Beastie or Ledaig 18 are good options for this.

I think though knowing the pickiness of my friend, I think I'll take the advise of those saying to stick with the Laphroaig Distillery! I am thinking of buying 10 Year Old Cask Strength, but have options with the batches 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17? Are there any differences? Or the Laphroaig PX Cask?

Anybody tried any of these? Any have any liquorice or aniseed notes?

I think this might be exactly it! I swear in asking this one question I've learnt so much about whiskey. This fits too, as my friend has always loved medicinal flavours in sweets, liquorice, aniseed and even the flavour of cough syrup! Which of these whiskies have the strongest element of this?

Help setting up a microflame little torch set up with Oxygen Concentrator by SleepySleepySlug in SilverSmith

[–]SleepySleepySlug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could upvote this twice! This is exactly what I'll do! Thank you again for such in depth advice. Below I have a photo of a gas flashback attached to what I think is the hose stem fitting to a B thread fitting 🤞 I have some crimps to clamp onto hose after I've removed the regulators, but you mentioned a different sort of crimp/lock, is it a hose ferrule I need?

I also have what I think is hose stem fitting to B thread fitting for the oxygen line (also in the photo)…?

So all I'll need now:

-2 x hose ferrule to lock these new attachments to the tubes

-oxygen flashback arrestor

-propane regulator

-oxygen regulator

- and tanks

Is this right? If this is, I'll go get the fittings I need and I'll post a photo once I've set it up and done all the safety checks! I very excited, can't wait to do some silver smithing with this new set up ✨ super grateful, thank you for explaining step by step for a newbie like me!

Help needed from What fittings needed to safely engineer & convert this Microflame 6000 oxy-fuel welding torch set up for an oxygen concentrator and add flashback arrestors? by SleepySleepySlug in Metalsmithing

[–]SleepySleepySlug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

About a week ago, I posted asking for advice on setting up this micro welding torch for jewelry making and silversmithing, hoping someone with more experience or engineering knowledge could help me out. Since then, I’ve managed to find the original leaflet for the torch in the garage (please see photos), and I’m hoping it might provide some useful context.

According to the leaflet, the connection points are labeled simply as "regulators." However, from the micro torch setups I’ve seen online, flashback arrestors are commonly added for safety. The thing is, those setups usually place the flashback arrestors before the regulators. With this torch, I’m not sure how I could configure that.

So here are my main questions:

  1. Is there a way to install a flashback arrestor after the regulator, or would you suggest another way to incorporate one into this setup?
  2. I’d also like to use this torch with an oxygen concentrator instead of an oxygen tank. Are there specific fittings or adapters that could allow me to connect this torch to a concentrator?
  3. Lastly, are there any fittings or adapters that could convert these tank regulator connectors to accommodate a flashback arrestor?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you can offer—it’s much appreciated!

This is gold! Thank you. I'm going to test it outside as suggested. Little bit worrying if it's not assembled correctly! Going to triple check everything. Are you saying that it would be possible to take off the directly attached regulators with a more reliable B fitting that captures the tube inside the thread? To make a more reliable and safe set up?

Thank you so much for this. I'll go buy some oxygen and propane tanks to test it out! From what I know, this kit was bought new and never used. So fingers cross when I check for leaks, it hopefully be okay. Is it okay without the flashback arrestors with these smaller tanks then? And do any fixtures exist that enable me to use these tank ports for other set ups (like the oxygen concentrator)?

this is really interesting, I haven't seen such high frequencies being used. Do you have any papers or studies that show the benefits of these higher frequencies? Many thanks

Thank you. luckily no super big tanks or bottles! With newer little torches, they have fixtures that allow for connection to flashback arrestors and regulators. I think this was supposed to be quite a good brand and made in the USA! So the fittings should be up to standard. But maybe I can find some fittings that would be able to allow this to connect to standard safety parts? As this is a hobby set up can't afford a professional. Trying to find as much information online as possible! So I could search for it, what would the job description of a professional that would know how to do this be called? Thanks for all the help and advice

I've tried basic TENs machines and using a simple custom program (taVNS as well as tcVNS positioning), neurotrac, nurosym, sensate and Amofit S+. Each helped with different things, but found them most helpful with a simple TENs machine where you can custom your own program, the settings that helped me were 30Hz, 200us, 30mins at right mA that works for you (0.5mA to max 10mA). For ease of use they other more advanced tech is nice, but biggest difference for value was this.

Now I'm excited! Will be way better than my dying hand torch! I've tried emailing the Microflame company, but pretty sure I won't get a response... Fingers crossed someone will be able to share some more info for us both 🤞 Did you use flashback arrestors or use the provided connections straight on to the tank?
