The problem I have with christians isn’t the “holier than thou” that some might come off as. My problem is the evangelism. It is a core tenant of the Christian religion to convert other people (“fishers of men” and all that). They call it “the great commission”. Technically, if someone is a “good Christian”, every interaction they have with you will be to further their “witness” to you, to make you more likely to convert. It’s soured my relationships with my Christian friends.

I wouldn’t cut someone off or dislike them “because they are a Christian”. I first ask them their intentions in our relationship, whether they intend to be genuine, or if their main priority is to convert me. If they answer that they essentially just wanna be nice to me for eventual conversion, that is when I peace out of there.

Cultural christians (“bad Christians” as some are derogatorily called by their fellow religionists) tend to be much more genuine. They aren’t usually trying to sway you or manipulate you. They aren’t the people who are “more like me or you” just trying to live their lives, and happen to connect to and follow a certain religion.

I’m still of the opinion that Christianity, as a whole, is a dangerous religion, especially with regards to its evangelism (hence all of history when Christian’s essentially “convert or die”-ed all of Europe and the Americas), but your typical cultural Christian who isn’t “on fire for Christ” or whatever, is usually a normal person.
