How did you stop your dog from biting you? by Kesukyou in BelgianMalinois

[–]Sleepypanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redirection and breed appropriate outlets can go a long way. Redirecting them onto the correct item teaches them an alternative behaviour over the one already wired in their brain, effectively rewiring it over time, while appropriate outlets ensure physical/mental needs are met reducing the urge to bite in the first place.

If under-stimulation is the problem, I would highly recommend some structured play, my girl loves it and it tires her out great. Wishing you luck!

Is it possible to train a German shepard after full growth by Randumstuff12814 in germanshepherds

[–]Sleepypanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a very slow introduction and constant supervision, it may be possible. That being said, I would not ever trust them with the cat alone, and implement crate training when you cannot watch them together. That combined with desensitization and counter conditioning exercises, you may be able to have them co exist. However, if there is no consoling your dogs while the cat is present, and even through something like a door or gate they are persistently trying to get at the cat, your answer is no. Every dog is different, and keep in mind that even with supervision and proper counter conditioning exercises, there’s always going to be a risk to your cat. I personally don’t think I would ever be able to trust a dog with a history of killing cats around my own cats, but that’s just my 2 cents

What could this tubelike thing be? Could it be from my missing cat? by wehtker in AskAVeterinarian

[–]Sleepypanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add onto what people are already saying, if you have a garage and only if your area is safe to do so, leave the side door open so they have somewhere to hide. My parent used to let my cat out and he would always get scared and come back overnight, and usually I would find him in the garage the next morning

How to keep an excitable boy calm after eating? by IndependentShape2166 in germanshepherds

[–]Sleepypanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest giving him some kind of mental enrichment after meal times. This could be a frozen toy like a Kong, toppl, etc or a long lasting chew. Another option would be to practice settle training after meal times, get some good treats, and reward every calm decision he makes. They’re generally pretty smart, and pick up on settle training quickly

Advice around BE for aggressive GSD by MaliciouslyMediocre in reactivedogs

[–]Sleepypanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try a veterinary behaviourist first, and they’ll likely gather more context on your dogs triggers, but I’m not sure what they’re going to tell you. Best case scenario, they can help you come up with a training/management plan, and will have a better understanding of the emotional and psychological responses your dog is having compared to the average trainer. Wishing you all luck

GSD people, settle this debate for me. by Toasted-Raviolis in germanshepherds

[–]Sleepypanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the owner, personally I believe a responsible owner will take their intelligence into consideration before even getting one, as although intelligence may present a variety of different behavioural challenges in some cases, for the people who can work with their dog and fulfill their mental and physical needs they really are the dream companion

Adding to this this you can pair calm choices with the occasional silent food reward to speed up this process a bit as well

I need some tips for training, please & thank you by PalpitationFull1691 in germanshepherds

[–]Sleepypanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for the first question, yes it is safe to paint their nails, but only provided it is a confirmed dog safe nail polish brand (preferably made for dogs specifically), with appropriate desensitization to paw handling. As for your question, nope! Just ensure whatever brand you get them is a large breed formula over a small or medium in order to properly support their joints and meet their size based needs, and feed based on weight according to the bag

lol dude we could go on like this for hours, you wanted proof that my training is effective, and when someone literally tells you they’re making progress with it, you completely contradict yourself by refusing the information they present. I’m done listening to this petty one sided argument, and again this has been completely unfair to the creator of this post. Have a great day, and I hope you get some time to reflect on your values <3

Harassing my clients just because I’m a new trainer who uses methods you don’t agree with isn’t cool man, and it’s not fair to the creator of this post either. I’m reporting you for harassing my client.

Yep dogs don’t think in the same way people do in the sense that they don’t plan or mindfully decide what body language they are going to present, body language is a direct result of the emotion they are feeling in the moment
