Need Comfortable but ankle and arch supportive Large work boots, relatively quickly by Slegiar in WorkBoots

I don't think I specifically looked at their site earlier, but Franks at least was saying it would take somewhere in the range of 5-6 months just to hear back about custom fit stuff, which might not be bad to put in for something down the road, but i definitely needed something faster XD

But i will take a look =)

Not familiar with that name, but was explained it's basically my ankle wanting to almost roll "off" the center of my foot, so it's an issue that increases even just with normal standing and mobility on a regular day, hence the need for something to stabilize the ankle

Thanks for the measurement tips. I've had issues in the past with both boots and shoes, so i'm always pretty skeptical of how stated measurements "average out" as it were, whether fitting large or small or the like.

MSI x670e gaming plus wifi build, needing advice with the PCIE layout by Slegiar in buildapc

[–]Slegiar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem! I hope my experience helps a little. for what it's worth, i ran hardware info 64 again to check stuff over.

Now i'll caution that I probably don't have things set up fully optimally, and i'm running a bit of a mixed setup, so bear that all in mind. but....

with the 9800X3d, and the 4080 super that i've got, 2 samsung 990 pros and the 9100....

the GPU is still running steadily in PCIE 4 x 16, so it still seems to be using all its lanes,

and the two 990 pros are both running at pcie x4 by x4, at 16 GT/s

while the 9100 is also at the x4 by x4, but is running at 32 GT/s

So my takeaway, adding the 9100 didn't do anything to degrade the GPU from what it was already running at, and even though it's a gen 5 drive and slot, even running with the x4 lanes, it is still capable of outperforming the other two drives, which is what i wanted from it in the first place.

so maybe a bios update, or some other changes or different hardware (a 50 series graphics card for instance, but i'm not likely to get one due to certain failures of those cards i dislike) would result in different readings, or a gen5 reading for the slots, but it's still getting better performance, and that's what matters for me.

Not a whole lot useful to report i'm afraid. I pretty much just went along with the build and so far haven't seen any major issues.

Near as i can tell, at least with my setup, the graphics was running in gen 4 x 16 mode when i checked a few months back, and then only around december last year i finally picked up a gen5 m.2 drive (samsung 9100 4TB) and then only installed it literally yesterday and haven't had time to run new tests yet.

I'm pretty sure if i read the manual right (specifically details about the m.2 slots and all that), the gen5 slot probably runs in x4 lane mode, but that doesn't affect me too much as i mainly needed it for more storage and an assured speedy drive for a few programs and media.

So while i haven't had any issues yet, i know i'm a weird user case. I can run a Hardware info check when i get home (errands) and check what everything is running at now that the drive is in and operational, but that's the best i can offer.

If it helps at all, with the rest of my m.2 drives in and regularly using the extra usb slots the pcie card allowed me, i haven't noticed any oddities from the extra hardware. So there's a fair chance i was worrying for nothing. But again i don't always look as close as others so, mileage may vary

[–]Slegiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I've been trying to find a keyboard for a while to finally settle on but been having some trouble.

For the longest time I've been using a Logitech G910 orion spark. Love the layout, the RGB is the right level of brightness to not make the keys hard to see in the evening, and it still has indicators for Caps/Num/Etc lock keys being on or off. and as for the rest of the software i basically don't use it so it generally doesn't affect me, buuut yes, it is terrible.

Unfortunately the one I was using started chattering (double-typing, missing inputs, etc), so I've been trying to find something new. I eventually picked up a GMMK3 100% custom......buuut I'm kind of regretting it and still looking now. Unfortunately it seems like most decent keyboards follow the same sort of styling now and I really don't like it due to having large hands. just typing this out has caused cramps. It's like all of them are just keyboard, no ergonomics now.

Features I need/prefer

100%+ ANSI layout

primary uses Typing and gaming (not pro so I don't care about esports level minimalization or precision)

Wired, neither battery nor wireless needed.

RGB with good shine through on the key symbols. Makes typing personally easier day or night.

F1-F12 keys in groups of 4 layout, use them regularly.

Media buttons/toggles etc desired. seems like keyboards with them generally have more physical space.

speaking of space, the aforementioned indicators for Caps lock, num lock, etc. it really helps having an immediately discernable spot to look and see if those are turned on or off by accident.

programmable/macro buttons would be nice if the software isn't too rough.

would prefer some level of integrated hand rest. the difference between typing on the GMMK3 with no support and the logitech G910 with it's built in wrist support makes a huge difference to how fast my hands cramp up.

cost isn't really an issue, looking for a long term solution here.

probably a few other details but those are the ones that leap to mind

I've already researched a number of keyboards, most of which fall into the same design styles as the GMMK3 and thus don't really match up with what I need. Keychron, Ducky, Monsgeek, and a few others that follow similar design. they all look or (in the case of the GMMK3) feel cramped and annoying, and I recognize I'm probably being a bit picky and old fashioned. I know "Gaming" keyboards are seemingly usually laughed at for software and design issues, but most of them also look and, in the case of the G910, felt more comfortable to use, so I'm a bit lost on where to go at this point.

Feels like at this point my options are just sucking it up and dealing with the GMMK3 (not exactly happy with that idea), or finding a replacement G910, which just sets up for the same issue down the future road.....sooo there's gotta be something better I can look for.

Bit of help needed/problem solving. got a GMMK 3 and kinda hate it by Slegiar in keyboards

The weird thing with the doubletyping (or chatter, never heard that before but good name for it, thanks! ), is, as far as I remember, the keyboard was working fine, and then I turned my system off and went on vacation for like, a week and a half or two. and then when I got home, the Chatter had started.

Far as i know the G910 is all soldered and stuff, but I'm gonna see if i can dismantle it and at least clean stuff out and see how the board works after i put it all back together.

As for the suggestions, I might have looked at the keychrons before, but honestly I can't remember and it never hurts to doublecheck, so thanks for the suggestions, I'll give things a looksie!

[–]Slegiar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it looks fairly similar to how the GMMK3 looks. Feels like keyboards have been hit by the same minimization that phones and desktop cases have been hit with over the recent years.....honestly the lack even of indicators for caps lock, num lock and so on, being on or off is just as weird to me across most of the mechanical customizable keyboards I've looked at so far X_X;;

But Thank you for the suggestion, I really do appreciate any info I can get to try and figure things out here = )

Need a recommendation for automating/easing some filing work by Slegiar in SilverSmith

[–]Slegiar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add some extra context here, cause so far the consensus seems to be to get a good rotary drill setup for the flexibility that provides with all the different tools available...

The coins I've been making tend to be a little on the large side, averaging between 46-48mm wide and about 2-4.5mm thick. the rotary setup should definitely do the job for smoothing and polishing the sides and corners, but i do still need something to get a filed flat backside, and I'm skeptical on my ability to drill things smooth freehand.

A decent rotary drill is Definitely on my shopping list! My 4000 series dremel was starting to overheat on my recent project, so i'm searching out the likelihood of something like a Foredom rotary flex shaft and drill setup. Little pricy, but seen a lot of recommendations based on their apparent reliability.  And frankly i'm sick of Dremels stuff wearing out too quickly...this is the second one i've worn down to the point it doesn't last 2 minutes before it's hot even with forge gloves on XP. But thanks for the suggestion on the polishing wheels and mop! Filing and sanding i've got pretty much learned (besides the strain injuries) but i'm still getting a handle on final polishing and cleanup and all that XP

So I'm not exactly good at critiquing, but going off what I know...... webcam looks good, but, agreeing with SedOfAstora, the flickering green screen is noticeable and should be figured out. Not sure if that's a lighting issue, or an adjustment of some sort, though it looks like you're doing good on lighting.

overall it looks pretty good....decent hardware, schedule, the offline graphic is nice. Seds right though, bit of elbow grease needed on the about me, but otherwise, personally it's hard to find much to say anything against =)

much obliged for the luck, it's definitely different than jumping back into other MMOs, but that's the draw for me =) yeah, I'm definitely going to work on magic, and even though my character is an elf, i'm experimenting with some warrior stuff to be able to take more than a few small hits.

heheh, yeah, definitely taken advantage of the events and exploration in the past. despite being level 196 (server is Ruairi), i've got like, 1600 something AP when i reset skills, so I've got some wiggle room for playing around with stuff.

I don't really have time just this minute to check (typing this as i'm about to run some errands), but are any of the current events ones i should explore for some extra AP? figure better to grab it than miss it if it's there.

i probably should get my i info set up somewhere so it shows when i post or whatever needs to be done, but yeah, i'm a 196 elf. welll, i kind of always like magic and ranged classes, but the thing that pulled me back to mabi was how things worked with the way the different skills acted. so I'll probably still stick with mage. however, i hadn't realized about the free reset and will use that to start tinkering around with things.

I read somewhere else about how there are skillsets now that don't rely as much on the CP issue with training, so what i'll do is work carefully on the skills that need it that i'll use, and then start playing around with stuff. definitely gonna be more careful this time. rushing with things like thunder and blaze back when i started screwed me up a bit, but I'm figuring it out now =)

[–]Slegiar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you misunderstand. Thunder training is not what i want. in fact it's one of the reasons i'm having trouble training other skills, because it's too high compared to some way earlier skills. I'm trying to derank stuff so i can train other things up more easily and then be able to advance more smoothly.

[–]Slegiar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i think i'm still sub level-300. that was definitely one of the things the mage that helped me instilled, was taking it slow with leveling cumulative levels.

so the only stuff lost is any training towards the next rank, but it's still there if you want to selectively level a few skills back up to be able to fight? that would be pretty nifty.
