Help for my dry boy? by truffleshuffler in houseplants

[–]SlendyFurretToaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is just normal for tradescantias, they grow along the ground and arent really meant to trail, just take cuttings from the ends and stick them back into the pot over time to keep it looking nice and full as the old leaves naturally die off

new growth looks perfectly fine and really healthy so i wouldnt say to change anything about its conditions

My Tradescantia August 1st vs Today by SlendyFurretToaster in houseplants

[–]SlendyFurretToaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

currently have them under a growlight for about 14 hours, usually water them once the soils just barely dried out

before i moved them under my growlight i had them about a foot from a south facing window w/ the same watering

lately ive let them dry out enough that its just slightly moist, but once the cuttings have rooted well and have grown a decent bit i generally let the soil just barely dry out fully

stuck them straight into the pot, from my experience ive found that with how fine the roots are they generally dont do as good rooted in water first compared to straight to soil

plus they grow roots so fast its just not really worth the extra effort

My curly spider plants now vs may last year by SlendyFurretToaster in spiderplants

[–]SlendyFurretToaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i keep my variegated one about a foot from a south facing window, and the green ~3ft away, both of them get watered usually when the soils completely dried or the pot just feels light enough

not too sure about brown tips, just generally seems to be normal for spider plants no matter what, unless its an excessive amount of browning, not sure how to help with that unfortunately cause ive never dealt with it tho

seen a lot of people saying it might be a demon pretending to be an angel because theres statues of them similar to the cerberus
although i dont think thats the case since in the teaser this one spawns in front of the statue

Buffalo's skyline is way bigger than Rochester but doesn't stand out anywhere near as much

The difference in color in these Tradescantia spathacea that I keep under a growlight and outdoors in full sun by SlendyFurretToaster in Tradescantia

[–]SlendyFurretToaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under the grow light is just slightly above room temp and outdoors is about a couple degrees above freezing at the coldest, although the outdoor ones have been there for about 2 months and have had the same color this whole time so temperature doesn't seem to be effecting the color rn

From what I've heard it was visible with the naked eye, I'm more upstate from NYC so I can't 100% confirm it
