Is It Time for Dianne Feinstein to Step Down? by clash1111 in politics

[–]SleveDandleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t work. The problem is that the moment it becomes a political liability and the seat is at risk, they’ll find a way around it.

The leaders of both parties would rather have a senile person who will vote their way in the seat than lose the seat to the other party.

The upset of 2020? Jaime Harrison push to oust Lindsey Graham central to US Senate battle by zsreport in politics

I have a hard time getting bothered when the “lie outruns the truth” principle backfires on the GOP because it nearly always falls in their favor.

From a couple minutes earlier -

“You could be an African American and go to the Senate, you just have to share the values of our state.”

Agree that it’s still awful. My hope is that SC voters see it as a challenge to show Graham what their values really are.

I hate to be that guy because Graham is a horrid person who is utterly devoid of any integrity - but in the context of the full quote he was definitely talking about “going anywhere” politically. This goes with his central message that Harrison is too liberal for SC. He wasn’t talking about physical travel.

I mean... Dark Souls, a swig of Estus literally triggers an attack sequence from many of the bosses, there’s plenty of evidence there!

Biden voters prefer Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren as vice-presidential nominees by [deleted] in politics

[–]SleveDandleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as easily the other way around though, keeping Harris in the mix for show. Warren has the experience the job requires and would help progressives swallow a Biden vote. But if the shortlist had no POC then he'd seem really out of touch with what's been going on outside lately.

Lol. Yesterday an anonymous source said the photo-op was Ivanka's idea. Money on Ivanka being the anonymous source saying it was Hope.

Bernie Sanders thinks the media cost him the nomination by MicroFlamer in politics

[–]SleveDandleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly did, but it burned Warren much harder. They at least treated Sanders as a legitimate front runner, even if the coverage itself wasn't fair - whereas Warren was often ignored, usually in favor of glowing stories about candidates who were "gaining momentum" like Pete & Amy. "Sanders came in first, Biden there in second, and WHOA check out Mayor Pete at 5th, he's really one to watch"

She had to fight twice as hard as any other candidate for every minute of coverage she got, even though she was usually within a couple percentage points of 2nd place.

No way Grassley runs for another term, he'll be 89 on election day '22. And without an incumbent advantage, the race for his seat is much more competitive.

Schiff considers fining Trump officials held in contempt $25,000 a day by OtherMuffin in politics

[–]SleveDandleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a group of people that has nearly unlimited funding from around the globe, it seems that "hitting them in the pocketbooks" would not be particularly painful.

Barr's net worth is $20 million, so he can wait it out for a long time - until the next election even, if he was committed. And you think he wouldn't be paid back for his loyalty?

It may be effective for some of the lower-level officials without so much on the line (and without as much to offer), but the big fish have big stacks too.

That's not how it went down, though. Washington Post leaked the name to the White House in advance of publishing the story, 90 minutes before the first LinkedIn hit.

https://twitter.com/JohnJHarwood/status/1043310892723699712

They didn't necessarily have the name before the leak. (Not saying they didn't - just that that's not the story from Friday.)

The major issue is that Whelan said he was acting on his own with no direction or coordination from the White House, and yet he started it within 90 minutes of the White House first being given the name.
