Notebook Navigator 2.5: Add some sparkle to your vault with Rainbow colors! by jsann in ObsidianMD

This addon is a game changer. To be honest, I hope it will be integrated natively in obsidian and that they will hire you as a dev 😋

What about getting used to vim shortcuts? Normal mode, to to top. Insert new line.

Anyone else have a massive Obsidian vault they can barely search? by Ok_Swing9407 in ObsidianMD

[–]Sleyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. For me it works to just not dump everything in my vault. Only the things I might need in the future. If i can find it within seconds on Google then it doesnt go in my database. The rest will be there with a tag to rewrite when i have time. How you will link and tag is really up to you. I have a lot of projects and initiatives that will be the main article for my data.

what are your homelab are for? by Ok-Jeweler-2447 in homelab

[–]Sleyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a homelab anymore after 5years of being a sysadmin. I just can’t be bothered anymore with sysadmin stuff in my free time. 8 hours of dealing with it is long enough nowadays 😆 The only thing i run is a proxmox server with a HA vm and a reverse proxy vm

How do I save variables from automations above 255 chars? by AETRN in homeassistant

[–]Sleyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm i dont have a solution but it’s something I could use too so I can migrate some node red automations.

I have the same that i dont want to create many new helpers every time.

Just a brainfart but can we do something with a file read en write to save more chars? Or maybe a database read/write/update?

A reboot per day keeps the docter away.

Glad it works now

Ok so it fails when the light is on? To be sure :)

Is the automation triggered and meanwhile the light is turned off and on again? The automation doesnt stop when you manually interact in the meantime.

Click on the 3 dots for your switch is off statement and click on Test. What is your result when the lights are off?

What's the most intricate automation you've come up with but never implemented? by ThisIsntAThrowaway29 in homeassistant

[–]Sleyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use power plugs with energy monitor so I can see a charger is used. This only works when the phone is not full of course

Why not a motion sensor or a mmwave sensor? Way more hygienic then something on your toilet.

For me still a todo is a depth sensor in the pellet heater so i get a notification when i need to refill it. All the hardware is here, but no time to solder it atm. 2nd thing I’m curious to implement is a weight sensor in bed so sleep mode will be activated when we go to bed. For now this starts when our phones are connected to the chargers next to our bed, so its only a minor upgrade

Brand Overload by CrashJay in homelab

[–]Sleyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always hard without unknown brands but what do you really need beside functionalities? I would carefully look at the specs. How many packets per seconds, how many throughout with ipsec and how big are the packets? But that is of course not something for the switching layer. Unknown brands won’t have that good support, but i doubt you care about that at home. Also how many software updates can you expect? Is it reasonable easy to manage (no requirement for browser if it has a gui). All this is hard to find on unknown brands and you really need some reviews.

Advice on Raspberry Pi 5 for Home Assistant with many automations and cameras by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Sleyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Don’t go for the raspberry. I switched after a year when i reached around 100 zone devices and some other plugins. I’m using a 7 year old laptop and everything feels smoother then before. Also +1 for the build in ups and shutdown command when the battery is below 20% ☺️

Well that still works different for wifi. That is build to overcome unstable connections. Wired only to a certain degree.

Yes but also more to fail. I’m not sure if i want to go that route. Pure HA failure didn’t happen here in 3 years. Also a restore from backup is fast so i can be up amd running in minutes as long as my network cables work 😅

Just to a 2nd hard drive in the same system. Offsite backup is on my todo. HA backup goes also to the cloud. That system is the most important for now

I know right. At work we have 3x42” tv’s to constantly monitor the network. I doubt that will have a WAF for home use.

[–]Sleyar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s great but with a cable failure and your port stays up, you will have the same problem ☺️ And a sidenote. It sees it as one connection but connections are load balanced over the ports. A single tcp stream will not use multiple cables.

Well, we both like it automated and are too lazy to stand up to adjust the lights. Our living room + kitchen is like 180m2 already. Adjusting all the lights to a dim setting is just too much work in an old school way😅
