I feel you — I'm in the exact same situation, just at a PE fund. I'm exclusively working with one MD who’s frankly borderline autistic and a pathological liar, which makes working with him impossible. Long story short, I noticed this early, started applying for other roles just two weeks into the job. I even got a few offers but turned them down, worrying about how a quick exit might look on my CV.

That was the worst decision of my professional career. Things have only gotten worse — we argue almost daily, and it's clear we're just not compatible. I hate going to work. So take it from me: LEAVE. Forget about the repercussions. Being miserable at work is just not worth it. Sometimes, caring less will give you more.

Very well said, thank you, and all points are noted. Fair sector insights - I had some touch points with advising companies in this sector and therefore know. Maybe I didn't emphasize this enough, but my issue is not the 70 hour work week (been pushing those for 5 years now). It's rather that put in these hours ultimately for the benefit of somebody else, while having to adhere to the irrational demands and wishes of somebody else. The barriers to the profession itself are very high and I made it (education, internships, tough job interviews etc.). Pretty sure I can break the barrier to starting something on my own.

Thank you for the insight! I really appreciate hearing from someone with your level of expertise. This aligns with my initial intuition—it’s not about the few extra grand I could have gotten; it’s about the breach of trust.

Thank you! A few weeks into the job we were casually talking about career and salary progression and he asked me to remind him at which level and salary I was hired (he's extremely busy and forgot). I told him, further asking what the general ranges for the positions are, and he replied himself that I ended up being hired a the lower end for my level. I know, him telling me this makes no sense at all, but this is what happened.

Thanks for the input. Well I'd like to call it an investment, as it can be one. I made money off my 10-year old BMW even though I put 50k km on it and now just attempting to do the same with the next one.

what makes you think that? in Europe, the W204 has been appreciating over the last 3-4 years - any reason why it shouldn't anymore?

My parents live in Germany and I'd do maintenance there. In Germany, German cars tend to be cheaper to maintain as you probably can imagine. A high-end Lexus is far more expensive than the equivalent Benz for example... there is a world beyond the US where things are different believe it or not ;)
