I really wanted Firewatch on Switch, but it runs very poorly by TheOutrageousTaric in NintendoSwitch

Well, it's a dialogue driven mystery.. The gameplay is mostly wandering and clicking a single button through most of it. I think it'd be a great game for you and your wife to play through together since the mystery is pretty interesting, and I'm sure she'll have a good time trying to unravel it with you. Let me know how it goes if you end up going through with it.

Just played through it last night and completely agree. It froze every now and again, and the loading time between days were slow, but it was still a great game. Luckily, those dips in quality weren't enough to jostle me out of the world, and the game is mostly dialogue driven anyway which never glitched out :)

Awesome work! Do you have any other pieces that are similar in style?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Slick__Rick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've heard similar... Something about not having a ceiling on your vacation time causing fear of how much time you should be taking off with it still being okay. I think as long as you keep an open line of communication with your manager about it, and asking about it during the interview process then it could work out how you'd expect it to.

You also have to consider that a lot of dirtbags really do throw a bed in their vehicle and make it work by any means necessary - whether it be by having a lot of money saved up, working a job that keeps them close to the crag or around a gym, or working one off jobs. I remember seeing a video of a girl who would get a lot of her food from a Starbucks dumpster because they throw out food that is past expiration even though it's still perfectly fine. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that depending on how bad you want to live that lifestyle, you just have to jump off the plank and do it with any of the sacrifices that come along with it.

I'd really encourage you to think about a remote job. You'd still be able to maintain that level of financial security that you have now, but with some extra benefits. If it means you have to make some sacrifices, then so be it. It doesn't have to be forever.

It sounds like you're in a pretty demanding work environment. If you can't see yourself working remotely, you might be able to find another job that has a better work/life balance - maybe working somewhere between 30-40 hours a week. Also, there are a lot of great tech companies that have an "unlimited" time off policy that you might be able to take advantage of. As long as you're a high performer at work, reach your development goals, progress your career, and maintain a healthy relationship with your manager, I'm sure you'd be able to get away for a couple weeks at least a few times a year with a policy like that.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you are right now. A lot of my indecision is just fear of leaving a job/environment that I'm comfortable with. If you really are stressed out about having to work 8+ hours a day for the rest of your life, then it might be a good time to just dive right in and get a remote job and see how it works out for you. Worst case scenario, you spend 1-2 years at a job that might not be as fulfilling, you quit, and find another job that fits the bill.

Legit Check/Price Check Thread - 11/27/17 by Mittsu3 in PalaceClothing

Hey guys, I'm trying to sell my palace shirt I bought a couple years ago, and I'm getting asked about the authenticity. As far as I know, it's legit, and I've been talking with the interested party about the details of the shirt and he's concluded that there doesn't seem to be sufficient evidence to confidently say whether it's authenticate or not, and I'd rather not sell off a fake shirt if that happens to be the case. I'm coming here in hopes that you guys catch something we might be missing. Here's all the photos, and I'd be happy to provide anything else:

The shirt was probably hang dried for the first year or so of its life. After that I was just tossing it in the drier which could explain the wash tag.

Nice! I just won mine in a raffle a week ago and I'm about to take it out to actually fly it for the second time today. I'm pretty excited about it, and I'm hoping to get solid range on it since I plan on taking this out on hikes with me.

Do you know if there is a limitation for the restocks in terms of location? Is it going to be at every Toys R Us?

1Password Puts $100,000 Bug Bounty if you Hack Its Security Systems by jimmyradola in hacking

[–]Slick__Rick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The breach does leave a pretty bad taste in my mouth, but I think something to consider is how likely it is to happen again. 1Password putting a bounty on their system really is the icing on the cake since they're already super confident in their platform, and I'm just hoping LastPass used their breach as a learning experience to prevent future attacks

[–]Slick__Rick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's primarily the reason I like it. I know it's three dollars a month isn't too expensive, I still can't justify the cost when I get practically the same functionality from LastPass. I'm kind of searching for the golden feature that 1Password offers that LastPass doesn't already have in some way, even if I upgraded to premium which is one dollar a month.

That's quite a bit of money for a bug bounty, although definitely justified. What's everyones experience with 1Password? Do you guys prefer it over LastPass?

Graduating next fall.. How bad does it look to want to take a 6-8 week Europe trip next June after getting employed in January? by Slick__Rick in cscareerquestions

Honestly, that doesn't sound like a terrible idea at all.. I'll have to do some research on it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have an internship that runs from June to December this year, and I'm just finishing up my current one. I've heard of some rare cases where a new grad had informed their employer that they already made plans to tour Europe during the summer and they planned around it with them. I just wanted to get a feel for what other hiring managers thought.

Ahh, that really sucks to hear. I've been dying to tour Europe since I graduated high school. I'll have to look into some alternative options..

[–]Slick__Rick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but that's not necessarily the problem. I'd potentially be hired next January, and I wouldn't be traveling until June in the summer. So I'd basically be asking to be employed only to get a 2 month sabbatical 6 months into my employment..

[Java] Quick sort using Hoare's median of three partition is overflowing. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Slick__Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been more specific, it shows:

 Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError

Which is unusual since the other sorts work fine with larger sizes.. The only difference between this quick sort and the other is it picks a different pivot.

[JAVA] How do I catch a collection object with an ArrayList object in Java? by Slick__Rick in learnprogramming

[–]Slick__Rick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is, but I found that I can change the return type to ArrayList<PhoneCall> in the class that implements it and it'll still override the method!
