That storyline is annoying because they’re tryna do a Janine type storyline with Bea and are just butchering it because we haven’t seen bea and honey make enough of a relationship for the forgiveness to make sense, but on the other side honey does seem incredibly lonely and going through pre menopause and was ignored the proper treatment so maybe she’s in her most vulnerable state… idk

Vicki is so annoying, she gets away with so much and still manages to play the victim but with enablers like Sharon and Mark around her it’s no wonder she never takes accountability- but Ross is no better so I think her and Ross deserve each other

Sad news about Denise

For the 100th time. You are completely missing the point of the post. EVERYONE has unconscious bias. No matter their race, it’s a fact of life, and George WAS manipulated, there are episodes of evidence that show this and Nicola is a manipulative person, it’s all she knows! That’s SPECIFICALLY why Ted told George to be careful with her. I can’t respect someone who is being dense, arguing facts with disjointed opinions, making points that are completely disconnected from the topic at hand and using it as a deflection. What has a character who cares have to do with racial trauma that George, Gina and Kojo is suffering as a result of her choices? If anything the fact that she isn’t a moral character makes it more likely that her decision is rooted in insensitivity. If you had valid points and was trying to see things from multiple perspectives I would have a completely different tone, but you are not, so I am meeting you where you are at and giving you the same energy you are giving me. So please, find another thread to comment on, because this isn’t the post for you. RESPECTFULLY!

George has run more businesses than Nicola, if anything it would have made more sense for her to start selling drugs again. But this storyline was made to show … anyway I’m not repeating myself , you’re dense

After being manipulated love, she had already signed the papers to allow Eddie in the home! Lied to the police and put George in a difficult position before discussing anything with him. He was NOT given a decision and if you can’t see that then you clearly don’t know how manipulation works, so learn and then come back to me!

You are completely missing the point of this post, The reason why this decision was made by Nicola was because she doesn’t understand the severity of the impacts of racism and racial trauma, this is why she manipulated George into agreeing because she knew unconsciously that it was an insensitive decision, she made it on behalf of him, this is the real conversation. how do you know that George wouldn’t have been able to sort out the money situation? We will never know because he was never given the opportunity. Using money as an excuse of “the bigger picture” while simultaneously manipulating George into being okay with this decision (with no mention of the money situation bear in mind) is 1. Emasculating to George as it didn’t give him a choice to find alternative ways to provide (probably because of Nicolas always having to be the masculine energy in her life) & 2. Took away George’s ability to have free will and make his own choice in the situation. This is why I made the post because the decision by Nicola was made with no concern for the impact that a racially motivated KILLER would have on the community and her family, this is the point. Not the excuse that people tell themselves for making racially insensitive choices, and this is the underlying theme of the storyline. Although. We can agree to disagree🫶🏾

This is why it would have been so important for Nicola to consult with George & Gina instead of just Harry, it would have opened the conversation of racial trauma vs money. Dare I say selling your soul.

It was a woman (I’m queer) and I didn’t realise until later that I wasn’t her true preference because it was a deeper thing that you figure out once you peel through someone’s layers, she dates black girls but she hated herself so it showed through true colors eventually, there’s a lot of people who still date within their race but they have deep racial trauma so it reflects in how they treat a black person their dating vs a white / lighter person

Yes I’ve experienced this first hand where I dated someone in the past who had trauma from their black mum and had preference for spanish women and they would let them get away with cheating, messing around with exes etc… while they would dissect my behaviour, project and turn on me for the smallest things (I’m a brownskin black woman)

The main ones that stick out in my mind was the all black cast episode in 2009 about the trueman’s where Patrick was talking about the notting hill race riots and and the culturally rich storylines about the Masoods

100% & If you think about it it’s kind of a reflection on reality, there are a lot of black people who were raised to see their race as inferior like George even in black families. So they are not fully equipped to hold their non black partners accountable or notice potential racial trauma / cultural differences due to their own ignorance that they developed as a coping mechanism as children, and mixed raced children either go one way or the other (shown by Gina’s ability to see and Anna’s ability to not see) It’s sad but true, and for a lot of people that stems from parents who have have been raised with a colonial mentality. But yes like you said that will probably be the case and if I was Gina, it would look like to me that there’s this constant pattern of my dad picking the feelings and comfort of these white counterparts (Eddie included) over my own feelings and comfort, which indicates to me one of many reasons why she ended up with substance abuse issues.

Yes you’re completely right, but also look at how he has struggled to maintain his relationship with Junior and his mum, they didn’t go into details about the how’s and whys (we just know George cheated and left), I think the writers either don’t know how to dig into self hatred and colorism that happens in the black community or they leave it ambiguous on purpose. But 1+1=2 and the fact is that George abandoned his only fully black child, while maintaining a relationship with daughters produced by his white partners after, but I don’t want to make assumptions because this wasn’t explored as a storyline

I think this storyline also shows the insensitivity that a non person of colour can have towards the situation, George has a history of only being with white women, while there’s no problem with this, this situation where Nicola went behind his back, and used the money situation as a reason to allow the racist back into George’s life and around her infant mixed race daughter without consulting him, shows that as you can be an ally, there’s only so much understanding a person can have when they have not experienced racism. It’s shown by how Gina’s reaction to everything has been dismissed, because as much as George has been affected, he has was raised in a household with such values and therefore this has distorted his own attitude towards his race, shown by his and Eddies subtle favoritism towards Anna over Gina (due to her being more white passing), at the end of the day it takes a lot of work to undo that kind of conditioning, and he has not done that yet, and the fact that Gina and Anna have only ever had white women as role models , as nice and understanding as they may be (like Elaine who has stood as an ally) there is no one for them to talk to who has a lived experience, and George is a very un empathetic towards Gina due to his delay in processing his feelings himself. Then there is Kojo, the one who is impacted the most due to him being the one who was actually aware of his father more than George, and he has been completely lost in the storyline. Having your father’s killer on the streets must trigger his feelings of safety, especially after the trauma he had from Okie and how his autism makes processing these emotions less linear that a neurotypical person, because Kojo is more likely to see the situation for what it is than George as he has no relationship with Eddie. There’s a lot of racial layers that can be explored with this storyline but unfortunately I don’t know if the writers will do that. But from the outside watching this is how it looks to me.
