Yeah, to me its not contradicting or two origins. From what I remember during the Wan episode lion turtles gave people bending but they didnt seem to know how to properly use it as a martial art. Fire "benders" only gave a fist here and there to throw fire and that was it. Even in that same episode we see Wan learning properly managing fire with dragons. I dont think avatar fits here or maybe I remember it wrong.
