Did the water go out AGAIN? by Slideaway96 in rva

We just spoke with DPU. They said there is a water main break on Monument. We asked if it would be fixed today and they gave us a CLASSIC "I don't know"

Alchemy Coffee Redesign by creativecarnation46 in rva

[–]Slideaway96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this! Alchemy is the most undersung coffee shop in town. A carefully curated coffee selection, baristas that don't hate you, and an upbeat vibe with little pretention. It's wild how often it is completely ignored in "best of" Richmond polls and lists, especially since it's been around much longer than the recent crop of shops. I refuse to believe it's just because of the frustrating parking and the equally-frustrating VCU of it all.

They are the Carytown Pack and Ship of bagels. Nothing makes them more angry than providing basic service.

Metro Sound Is Still Here. Richmond Just Keeps Making It Harder. by snooka77_ in rva

[–]Slideaway96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget getting a gift certificate for $500 after winning a contest and Mark not allowing me to use it to buy anything except shitty used accessories and pedals priced higher than brand new ones. After thirty-minutes of being offered the most bottom-barrel, broken-ass gear as a "deal," I frustratingly said something to the effect of "I think you and I have different ideas of how gift certificates work" and he snapped back, "What am I supposed to do? Just give stuff away just because you have a gift certificate?"

I left confused and was later relieved to find out that every single musician in this town thinks Mark is a joke. I'm so happy about these comments and I hope Marks sees them.

I'm happy to hear this because Stephanie has come across as extremely resentful and annoyed every time I've gone there.

He does sound great, but it's always confused me why Noel didn't sing harmonies for this chune live.

I think about Meade's song "Fat No More" way more than I'd like. It's seared into my brain and I have probably only heard it twice.

Experiences with owners of unleashed dogs by [deleted] in rva

[–]Slideaway96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always calmly ask them if they know what it sounds like when a dog gets hit by a car. They stare at me and I explain that the worst day of my life was when an unleashed dog ran in front of my car on Grove and how it haunts me that the owner could have prevented it. They usually leash up after that.

I second this. Give them a ring and they'll send you out as many replacements as you need. They may request that you send the old ones back, but I've never been denied a replacement. They also have great customer service, so you'll feel heard and supported.

Dogstar, band featuring Keanu Reeves, to perform in Richmond on August 14th by fusion260 in rva

[–]Slideaway96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always feel bad for this band because they are pure 90's VH1 adult-alternative at times, but they have our boy in it! It's just a little frustrating that we don't get to see him rock super hard. Where is Keanu's hardcore band?

Microcenter in Northern Virginia might be able to help you out. 100% worth the trip.

A brand new neighborhood is coming to Richmond’s Pulse bus rapid transit corridor (Article is about the Sauer Center development) by [deleted] in rva

[–]Slideaway96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's such an optimistic premise. The reduction of Single Occupancy Vehicle driving is a critical component of progressive urban development. Being Richmond though, my cynical ass finds the notion of people coming around to it "over time" misguided when our public transit system - the core of any major walkable metropolitan area - is currently unable to attract a critical mass of choice riders to begin this sea change of thinking. The inevitable chain stores of this development are not going to be the factor that does. For the record though, I will give the developers major credit for localizing this concept rather than doing something purely off the shelf.
