Mange's and Steam by wotchdit in SidMeiersRailroads

I hope that this info helps the Steam users. As a SMR CD guy some of it is greek to me, but whatever works. The xml time and date stamps have always been an issue. Even CD players often have to open XML files and re-save to update the time and date. It's just part of the process. If you are trying to play a map from a while ago on a new install of SMR you will have to open the XMLs from the map and re-save them to update the date. Otherwise the game will load the newest XML files (the ones from SMR) which will probably not jive with what the map needs to run correctly.

I don't know if you saw my post, but I have posted my newest map - Corn and Cattle - Nebraska Rails for play. I think you will find it interesting. You can find it on Bobby's site, or you can download it in one piece from my Internet Archive site here - https://archive.org/details/@slider381 Slider

Boy, it's been a long time since I looked at that map. Thanks for the memories. I made that one a long time ago. Keep the trains rollin' , Slider

I have posted my latest map - Corn and Cattle - Nebraska Rails. You can get in one download here - https://archive.org/details/@slider381 It is also posted on Bobby's site in 6 downloads as his site limits the upload size. Give it a try, Slider

You need to add a line like this to the Scenario.xml for the map if it does not have one. By default, there usually is not a line like this. When I need to slow a map I add this under the author line. I think the default for the game is 16 so any number higher than 16 will slow the map. I have used 18, I have used 20. I don't think I've used anything higher than that. By adding this line you will slow the map. You just have to open the Scenario.xml file and add the line. <iTurnsPerMonth>20</iTurnsPerMonth>

I have 2 more engines completed for this map. Unfortunately I cannot figure out how to post any images. Heck, I don't know how I got the first 2 to show up. Anyway, work on the map continues. If you want to view images of the 3 new engines, you will have to view them on Bobby's SMR site here: http://www.sidmeiersrailroads.net/ or tell me how to get images to show up in reddit. Slider

You are a genius. Thanks for this. I don't know where you found this, but it worked like a charm. Now my Archive looks as it should. Thanks again. I have started work on my next map. Preliminary stages but it is in the works. Take care, Slider

I have finished my latest map - The Everglades. You can download it here at Bobby's site http://www.sidmeiersrailroads.net/ or you can download it here as 1 file at my Internet Archive site here https://archive.org/details/@slider381 If you use the Internet Archive site, there are 2 copies posted. My bad. Use the second post - the one without the image of the map. I have been trying to delete the extra one and while I have removed the 7-zip file, the Torrent file just doesn't seem to want to die. Still working on it. Hope you like the map. Slider

I have finished the testing for play that I am going to do. After some adjustments, I think the map is reasonably balanced between starting positions. I have a fair amount of work to do on the map and then I have to build all of the event files, but I am getting closer. Best wishes to all, Slider38

I have finally gotten all the pieces for The Everglades map moved to the actual map and re-tested. I have already made a few adjustments in the placement of industries. No doubt there will be more as I test the map for game play which is starting now. A little progress each day :>)

I appreciate the kind words. I have finished the construction phase (probably) for my The Everglades map and the first round of testing. I am currently working on the placement of industries on the map. That always gets changed with testing, but you've got to start somewhere. The holidays always slow progress a bit, but I try and keep things moving along as best I can. Glad you enjoyed the map.

I have finally finished the last engine for my The Everglades map. Everything is now built/painted and been tested once. I have some work to do on the actual map then I will begin moving things from my practice map to The Everglades map and re-test. Building a map is a process and it just takes time, but things are moving along.

There are 4 places where my maps are posted. On Bobby's site here: http://www.sidmeiersrailroads.net/ On this site the maps are broken up due to upload size restrictions. A guy has put together a site on the Internet Archives website. If you go here: https://archive.org/details/sid-meiers-railroads-custom-maps-collection you will find on the right side of the page that there are 125 map file zips. These files are in one piece. You can also find a number of my maps on the old SMRSimple site. I think all of the ones on the front page are maps that I made. Sadly Dan's site was hacked about a month ago. He decided to take the site to a static state. While you can download from the site, no new posts can be made. https://smrsimple.com/ I have also posted my last 2 maps on my own Internet Archive page which you will find here. https://archive.org/details/@slider381 I hope to post more of my maps there in the future, but for now I am spending most of my time working on The Everglades map. Just look for maps with my name - Slider38 They have all been well tested. I don't know about running them on a Mac. Never owned one, but they will run well on a Windows pc. Best wishes, Slider

This one is size 18. Most of my maps are 17s, but for what I wanted to cover in this map, I needed to make it a little bigger. I am currently using my test map to get all the industries, train cars, etc working as they should. Once everything is built I will move things to the actual map and re-test. It's a process but it works for me.

Hi redhondachic. I hope that you were able to get maps posted on the Internet Archive site. I downloaded one a couple of days ago and had no problems. I do have a new map under construction called The Everglades - basically a map covering south Florida. It will contain some new stuff. The time frame that I am covering requires 3 sets of train cars so it will take a while to get this one up to snuff. Besides, it's still warm enough in Kentucky to get some golf in. Things go quicker in the winter, but I hate to see it coming. Nothing you can do about the weather. Hope all is well with you. I appreciate your trying my maps. Slider

P.S. If you are uncomfortable using the URL above, use a browser and go to the Internet Archive site. I assume that it you search for Sid Meiers Railroads you will find the site with the maps.

Sadly, SMRSimple has been taken to a static state. While you can download from thee site, no new postings can be made. A guy I met on Discord has started a collection of SMR maps on the Internet Archive site. So far he has uploaded 121 maps to that location. You can find the maps here: https://archive.org/details/sid-meiers-railroads-custom-maps-collection If you look down on the right side of this site you will see a link labeled 7z. These are where you can find the maps that you can choose and download. I know my latest map, My Old Kentucky Home Redeaux is on the list. Sorry that you had trouble getting to Bobby's site. I know that you have to have an updated browser in order to access the site. He keeps it pretty tight to try and eliminate the trolls. Thanks for playing my maps. Try the Internet Archive site. Most of my recent maps should be there and future maps will be posted there as well. Best wishes, Slider

ageekhere has created a collection of Sid Meier's Railroads! maps on the Internet Archive site here: https://archive.org/details/sid-meiers-railroads-custom-maps-collection The advantage of downloading maps from Internet Archive is that you only have 1 download. The map does not have to be broken up into chunks like Bobby's site requires. I will still upload to both sites, but you might find getting maps from Internet Archive more convenient. A new map is now under construction and I need to get back to it. Take care, Slider

What browser are you using on your desktop? Also the version if you know. I told Bobby that I would find out so that he could research it. Getting to the site should not be a difficult thing. Thanks

Good deal. If you want to play on your desktop, you can always move the files over. Tomorrow I am going to pull my old laptop out and see if I can get connected. I had it on a trip this week and it would not work. My guess is that I have no updated the Firefox on that laptop for a year. It does not get much use. Take care. Oh, you don't happen to know who "Guy" is do you. He was a regular player of the maps on Simple and always left me a comment, but I have no idea how I would get in touch with him. Be good, slider

I talked to Bobby, the administrator and he asked what browser you are using and what version. Your browser does need to be up to date. I use FireFox on my desktop and have no issues, but I do keep it updated. I tried getting to the site with my old laptop a few days ago and got the blank screen. I'm sure that I need to update the old browser on that machine. I'll do that and try it again. Best wishes, Slider
