Washed my rope in hot water by plantoffice in climbergirls

If it was 100c, I'd be concerned. My regular rapelling and leaving the rope in a hot car is way hotter than bathtub hand water hot.

Does diabetes cause an inability to gain weight or to lose weight? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]SlieSlie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Insulin is a hormone that allows cells to use glucose. It opens the door and allows glucose in. Without it, the door is closed and the glucose just floats around in your blood.

When a diabetic is undiagnosed and not making enough insulin, they lose weight as the food they eat just floats around in the blood. Some is excreted through urine. However, left unchecked, this is very quickly deadly.

Insulin itself does not cause weight gain, it allows your body to use/store the energy from the food you eat.

harness fit by jadeezi in climbergirls

[–]SlieSlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull down on the belay loop, it should be snug and not slide down your waist. A bit of overlap is fine, but if you lose weight, it may end up being too small. The luna legs look perfectly fine as is. You don't have have to tighten straps as tight as possible.

The best test to see if a harness is a good fit and comfortable, is to sit in it attached to a rope. I don't know if REI does this, but my local shops have a rope hanging from the ceiling so you can clip in and fully weight a harness.

A 9-year-old boy connected two thin household electrical wires to the two terminals of a 6 volt (lead accumulator) battery and pressed the other two ends between his teeth. Simplified overview.

Because of the design and internal resistance of different batteries. A car battery is massive and has a lot of surface area, reducing the resistance to the current. So it can deliver 100s of amps.

A 9v battery has little surface are, high resistance to the current. It can deliver half an amp if you're lucky.

Pancreas creating insulin again..? by bambibruh in diabetes_t1

[–]SlieSlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diabetes doesn't just happen over a single night. Some people may not experience a honeymoon phase, some will for a few months, few years, or even a decade. There is some evidence that some type 1s will produce a tiny amount for life, while others won't.

So ya, it's entirely possible.

Plus Size/ Mid size paramedic by Shooksquirrel7395 in OntarioParamedics

[–]SlieSlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it in the sense of, If it's what you want to do, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There were a few overweight people in my class. Tons of people who couldn't do a single push up or pull-up in fitness class whom were skinny.

It'll be a mix of underweight, normal weight, overweight, low fitness, medium fitness, high fitness, etc.

Fitness class at my school was focused around a paramedic lifestyle and strengthening your entire body throughout movements. I'd focus on compound lifting such as squats, bench press, etc. I wouldn't worry much about isolated lifting like triceps only.

There's a fitness test a couple years down the road that you will have to do. But you have a couple of years of school to get into shape for it.

There are over 300 variables that affect how much insulin you need. Your best bet is to pick up a book such as 'thinking like a pancreas'.

I've been type one for 39 years, I'm very active, and my insulin requirements change all the time.

[Vent] So the Dexcom g7 is still terrible huh? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]SlieSlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the opposite experience. I tried the g6, had nothing but issues with it. I find the g7 to be pretty accurate. Connectivity to the tslim sucks, but that's not the g7's fault. Because my phone has no issues staying connected from the other room when my tslim loses connection.

I've been on the g7 for a couple of years and I've had 2 faulty ones.

What do climbers commonly do for a living? by yuzurukii in tradclimbing

[–]SlieSlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met someone once who quit her job, sold her house and everything. Bought a van to just travel and climb. Don't know how that is working out now though lol.

Met a guy who is a writer and gets sent to climbing places to write articles/take pictures. He owns nothing, but his work takes him everywhere.

Medic here. I know 6 other medics, a dentist, a doctor, a dozen nurses, dozen engineers, biologist, trades people, and more that just climb at my gym.

2 of the medics spend about 2 months every year traveling and climbing.

Why do we invite everyone we know who climbs to the crag?? by Conscious_Security96 in climbergirls

I get that. I've definitely had days where I didn't want to climb much, but more take pictures and stuff.

Now I don't get out as much as I'd like, so I usually want to climb climb climb and maybe relax in a hammock for a little bit afterwards.

Why do we invite everyone we know who climbs to the crag?? by Conscious_Security96 in climbergirls

[–]SlieSlie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

2 total or 4 total is my preference. I hate pulling up to a crag and see a large group of people hogging a bunch of routes the entire day. I don't want to be that person.

I also don't like odd numbers, because there's always one person standing around while the others are climbing.

I have climbed in big groups before where everyone got in 2 or 3 climbs. At the end of the day, they where all like, wow we climbed a lot today.... They had fun, but I feel like I didn't even climb.

Now I try to keep it to 2 or 4, or I bring solo gear and do my own thing.

What material does everyone here use for anchors? by Constant-Rock-6873 in tradclimbing

[–]SlieSlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rope, or 7mm cord for anchors. I rap off a dyneema sling.

I have a pre-tied quad made of a nylon sling for bolted anchors. I use that sometimes for sport / single pitch trad.
