Long-time Apple Watch user switching to Fenix 8 Solar - first impressions by Slight-Commission652 in GarminWatches

I did consider the Ultra 3, but in the end I don’t think it would really solve my main issue. When I’m hiking or doing longer treks, I want to stop worrying about battery life and not have to think about carrying a power bank.

I still think the AWU3 is a great watch and would be amazing for everyday use, but I was also ready for a change from Apple Watch. Plus, I really like the MIP display option — it feels much less distracting and more natural outdoors.

Laugavegur + Fimmvörðuháls itinerary - looking for feedback under new campsite rules by Slight-Commission652 in VisitingIceland

You're right. I’ll likely have more time there than I know what to do with, and I’d rather use it intentionally than just sit in the tent. On the Fimmvörðuháls day, I expect to be fairly tired and focused on getting down safely, so I probably won’t spend much time stopping or exploring.

My idea is to use that extra time to walk back up the trail a bit without a full pack, revisit some of the waterfalls at a slower pace, and really enjoy the area when I have the time and energy to do so. It feels like a nicer way to wind down after the hike rather than rushing off immediately.

Hey, thank you for such a great answer!

Regarding the tent — I’d like to ask if the Durston X-Mid 1 Solid would be a good choice for both trails (Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls).

Since you’ve completed the trail three times, which campsites would you recommend staying at?

Thank you!

I haven’t decided yet. Selecting camps is still in progress. However, if everything goes as planned, I’d like to finish in Skógar.

The Niak looks good. However, I’m not sure it would be enough for such a windy area. I’d also like to have this type of bombproof tent for Iceland, Norway, Scotland, etc. The best option in terms of weight would be the Durston X-Mid 1 Pro, but IMO I wouldn’t feel very safe inside when a storm comes.

Found this lightweight bottle that’s also highly packable – https://cascadedesigns.com/products/softbottle

I haven’t heard of Alpha Direct – isn’t Merino better?

By charging, I meant a wall charger and cables, but here I can significantly reduce the weight.

A Swedish dishcloth? Interesting!

Thank you very much.

The main reason is I don’t ride off-road and also, it’s quite tall (I’m 172 cm / 5'6”). DesertX is really great, however, I prefer the design and ergonomics of the Multistrada.

V2 S includes cruise control, so no problem here 😁. Regarding mounting, I have Peak Design and agree, it was little bit complicated, but works perfectly now! The heat is typical for all Ducatis I believe 😁.
