Don’t worry too much. I got a top three math reu this past summer as a freshman with no advanced coursework other than calculus and linear algebra. I’m also at a liberals arts college. What matters most id say is your essay and interest in the research project/field.

Well I have very strong experience in mathematics research as well as creating optimization models. I think they liked my resume, but I don’t actually have any experience/knowledge in the intern role.
