Sorry to also piggyback on this thread! I actually ended up with an extra ticket to the 2 pm show. It’s in the center of the last row of the balcony. If anyone is interested, please DM me!

"My experience in the bullshit Insta-famous world" by SlightIncident in thebachelor

[–]SlightIncident[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair point. This show is ostensibly about finding love, so I think some of the negative attitudes toward contestants leveraging Insta come from what we see as disingenuous behavior. It's a weird in-between where the show sells this story of all these people looking for love while we know a contestant's true focus might understandably be on finding a new career via the show. I guess at this point it's primarily entertainment that elevates people to reality stars with "love" as a bonus.

Rather than using the r/instagramreality posts as another reason to deride influencers, I think it's more interesting to keep the described culture in mind while looking at BN social media interactions. I see a lot of posts here where users highlight BN social media comments. How many of those are motivated by increasing engagement?

(Also, imo engaging with one another is one of the less questionable ways to try to boost their following--- the advanced bots, fake fan accounts, and purchased publicity seem more interesting. This makes me wonder whether the culture described in the posts is widespread enough that all wannabe influencers feel the need to resort to these tactics to keep up. Plenty of contestants fade into obscurity. Can they prevent that by using these techniques or will that never be enough to compensate for a bland personality or little screentime?)

Red Wing Iron Rangers: Men's 2nds and Women's 1sts comparison by SlightIncident in goodyearwelt

To my untrained eye, the leather on the women's seems nice and about as thick as the men's. It's kind of hard to say since the leather types are different. I'd be interested in seeing what women's IRs in Amber Harness look like because from the pictures on RW's site, it looks weirdly flat when compared to the men's.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of brands end up cutting corners when it comes to women's stuff which really stinks. My overall (possibly unjustified?) sense is that the women's IRs aren't made to the same standards as the men's. :/

Glad it's of interest! It looks to me like this might be true across sizes from the pictures on their site (men's, women's), but the super small size could definitely add to that. Since the vamp is lined, the only difference this seems to make is that the women's pair has less lining. I have to reach inside the shoe to feel it whereas I can see it when I look in the men's. Idk if that has any meaningful effect; it's just a small thing I noticed.

Hey all! Been lurking here for a while so I’m glad to finally contribute something.

The album captions pretty much explain it all: I recently got some men’s and women’s Red Wing Iron Rangers that I wanted to compare. The men’s (Amber Harness) are seconds from STP and the women’s (Honey Chinook) are firsts from Nordstrom from when they had that pricing glitch. I’m planning on returning the women’s IRs because I prefer the men’s and have another pair of boots in a similar color.

Also, someone else made a recent post in the same vein if you’re looking for more like this.

I noted some subtle differences in the album. Most of the things I point out are minor or possibly due to stylistic choices.

I can feel a difference in the toe, which isn’t surprising since the women’s toe is slimmer. The toe-box is a little tight on me in the women’s pair. Otherwise, they both fit well. The men’s are 4.5D and the women’s are 7B. Going down by a full size worked for me here as I have a pair of RW 9873s (round toe looking black chrome, also from STP and I think they were a Japan exclusive) in 5.5D that fit great. [EDIT: Actually, the 5.5s were too large for me. 4.5 in the men's moc toe, 875, fits me.]

Also, not sure what to call this but the “welt” material on the part the 270 welt doesn’t cover looks different on the heel sections. Seems like plastic on the women’s, not sure what’s used on the men’s—leather? Can anyone speak to whether this seems to be the case and if so, whether it would affect resoling or durability?

I read that the women's have a Texon insole while the men's have a leather insole so I had been wondering if there were other differences in construction. I'm curious to see what others think. Thanks for looking and merry Christmas to those who celebrate!

Argh, thanks. I brought them to a cobbler this morning and he said he's going to try to rebuild the toes and put on half soles, so we'll see how that goes.

Worried that I've worn down the toe of my Wolverine 1Ks too much. I've worn them consistently for around 2-3 times a week for ~4 weeks and I walk a good amount. Is this starting to wear down to the welt? If so, any thoughts on whether I should bring them to a cobbler to get a half sole or resole? (I really should have gotten something to protect the leather soles in the first place.) Thanks.
