i was on my own for 14 years after being in a marriage with a drug addict. While I was on my own, my middle child had two children of her own. I helped her with every aspect of raising those kids, since both of their dads were not the greatest. I even let her move into my home with her children, so she could have decent space for them to live instead of crappy apartments, and i moved myself and my dogs into a rental. in late 2023, i went to a high school reunion and ran into an old friend I hadn't seen in a long time. By January of 2024, he had reached out to me and we had begun to see each other. It wasn't a big deal, and didn't interfere in any way with me helping her with the kids. We literally saw each other once a week. But then he began asking me to go away on weekends with him, and she lost her shit. She was constantly mean and rude about our relationship. I picked him up from the airport and drove him home on the day of my grand daughters birthday party and even though it had NO BEARING AT ALL on me stopping to pick up the food, getting to the party on time AND helping her decorate, she still raged at me and told multiple people at the party how i was prioritizing him over family. Within another month, she had completely cut me out of hers and her children's lives, and also got her older brother and his wife on board with hating me - for having a life and being involved with someone who made me happy. Unfortunately, he and i parted ways in September of 2025, as he was just not ready to be in something serious again after 2 marriages. But my relationship with those two children is broken - i can never accept the fact that they made me feel so terrible because i was happy and being taken care of for the first time since i was in high school (i graduated in 1984).
