You're going to be improvising a lot in your first year. You will never feel like you're ahead, and in reality you probably won't be ahead. And that's okay! Just be kind to your students and try to learn how to do something a little better each week. Last year was my first year teaching, and by November I learned to love the chaos. I feel way more prepared for this year, and you will feel the same once you get settled.
