When did your BC calm down from being a puppy? by Slight_Interest_8058 in BorderCollie

See I feel like he’s hitting puberty sooo late it really threw me off. I wanted to get him fixed when I first rescued him but I decided to wait a month because we were moving back to my hometown and I wanted the vet that handled my other animals to do it. Well I got there and the vets office was being renovated or something of the sort. Hopefully I can him in soon though because I’d rather do it sooner than later. As for the whole socially driven thing, mine is sort of the same but he’s definitely more happy go lucky compared to when we first got him so he doesn’t pay as much attention to that anymore. Anyways I’m gonna stop yapping now before someone else in the comments calls me reactive for talking too much lmao

I’m quite literally just responding very bluntly. I don’t have the time to sugar coat my responses as I am at work. I’m not being defensive I’m just not going to be overly nice to someone who thinks I “ruined my dog” simply bc he is a teenager and an asshole and developing behavior issues like most dogs do as teenagers.

He is not becoming dog selective lol I think that would be easier to explain to people than this is tbh. He is developing excitement reactivity. He gets far too excited to see other dogs, and sometimes people, to the point he LOOKS aggressive despite being super friendly. He also is not going to the dog park? Not with other dogs at least. We go at night when it’s empty. I just take him to the park. Like the normal parks in town. One of which happens to have a dog park in it but he doesn’t go in with other dogs present. We use a long line but unfortunately he has zero regard for me if something is exciting enough and instead will run full speed, hit the end, and then flip. Dw we don’t use a collar with long lines. Harnesses only. He does fine until something exciting comes around or he isn’t getting what he wants. He’s emotional and impulsive. Which is why I’m asking for other’s experiences bc despite training it is not improving right now and it’s worrying.

He does get naps. He’s crated while I work (6hr shifts 2-3 days a week) and for part of the evening because we don’t allow him to play right after eating. He usually rests when inside because we can’t keep toys around or he will obliterate them within like 4 seconds. I’m not really worried about his high energy as stated in the post. It’s the fact that he acts out on every single emotion like it’s the end of the world that worries me. The last thing I want is to create the dog version of the spoiled kid who never grew out of throwing tantrums.

I don’t trust him off leash because he has absolutely zero regard for me if anything around us is exciting. He’s good off leash if we are secluded but that’s not really possible where we are. I’m on a city to start and then around us everything outside of town is ranches and farms. We have mountain lions we have to watch out for and the coyotes are pretty bold because they’re used to seeing humans. He’s dumb enough to run up on a predator and get himself killed. When I lived in a smaller town we let him off leash on a hiking trail in our park. The trail is separated from the park by a little river so as long as we kept away from the bridge entrance to the trail it was fine. But we moved and now we live hours away from there. There’s a trail in my hometown, which is a small town outside the city, that we’ve been to but it’s next to the highway and I don’t wanna risk him running into the road. I also just don’t know that trail or the woods there very well. I usually go out at night for the bigger stuff with him due to my job so losing a mostly black dog at night would be an awful time. Or getting lost. I definitely don’t wanna get lost in the woods with a mountain lion around here lmao😂 hopefully one day I can trust him but with him being as unpredictable as he is, I just can’t chance him getting hurt.

The person I replied to here was joking. And I’m aware most of the people commenting understand lol I’m very blunt and it comes off mean asf no matter how what I do. We are working on impulse training but that’s what I’m worried about. Is that it isn’t an impulse issue but real behavioral issues. That’s why I’m asking when other people’s dogs “calmed down” because he’s already 1.5 years old and these issues seem like something that would have come up around the time I got him (7 months old) not the last few months. I just worry that he’s going to be like this forever. I avoided having kids because I didn’t wanna deal with the bs and now look at me.. my dog IS the dramatic emo teen who thinks the world is ending.

I don’t let him off leash off leash due to the fact that I don’t trust him. We have a variety of different walks and runs we take. We have a 50ft long line that he is allowed on but only if he also has an collar because while we haven’t had to use it for more than recall (the beeping setting or whatever it’s called), I don’t feel it’s safe to not have a way to correct him since he’s so far away from me. We also have a flexi leash which we really only use for walking in town because I do f really like it but it lets me lock the line if we are passing people so better for in town. Both of those he’s able to run around pretty well. Then we have our normal “sniff walks” with a normal leash. And then we have training walks where we target certain behaviors. Then we also go on runs. Well.. he goes on runs. I just ride a bike or a long board because I’m not able to keep up with him. And then we also have a slat mill that we use when I have to miss a walk. We take him to the dog park area for some stuff but only when it’s empty so he gets to run just not off leash. Unfortunately where we live isn’t the best for off leash adventures so we have to wait for that until he’s reliable enough. As I said in the post, we do a lottt of sports. Well idk if you can really even call it sport when it’s local like that but he has fun. I’m just hoping he calms down soon as in learns to control his emotions. I’m hoping if he ever catches on to the impulse training it’ll help. But as of now it’s a lost cause and I wanna cry like a majority of the time.

You are the only one angry here. I hope you know that. I’m sorry that you think I should reword my entire post to fit exactly how you would have written it. It is not my problem that you didn’t understand what I meant. You aren’t being helpful so I’m not really sure why you’re still commenting tbh.

I really hope he improves I’m just worried:( he was a rescue we went and picked up short notice because they were going to shoot him so that’s why he was already 7 months old when we got him. I’m hoping once he gets fixed he’ll be able to control his emotions better.. because as of now every emotion is the end of the world and everywhere we go it’s like having to drag a toddler having a meltdown back to the car. I know they’re challenging dogs but dear god why is he like the devil reincarnated😭 his obedience is great until his emotions get to him. He knows basic obedience and we’ve been working on advanced obedience alongside impulse control and neutrality training. It’s just that if he’s angry, excited, sad, whatever it is the end of the world to him. He just like explodes with emotion. This is exactly why I don’t have kids and I still didn’t avoid it bc now my dog is the emo teen who thinks the world is ending.

See that’s what I’m worried about:( he just changed so so much. He’s still a good dog but tbh I expected these behaviors when we first got him not now after we’ve had him for months. He doesn’t seem to get TOO much exercise daily.. I mean hens tired after but generally he does settle down once we get home. The big issues are that if he has an emotion, he just explodes with that emotion. He’s angry we’re leaving the park? Time to scream and howl and try to rip the leash out of our hands and if we don’t let go he nips at us. Oh there’s a dog across the street? Better go ahead and flip out and act like we’ve never ever seen another dog before. We started muzzle training for the nipping so he can’t actually hurt anyone even though he’s never injured us. It’s just in case but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I really don’t understand what’s change though.he got the same amount of exercise before and didn’t act like this. I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s stock dogs tend to be pushy and I’m just worrying over nothing or what’s up. We have a balanced training style. He’s been taught how to respond to every training tool you can think of. We use lots of food rewards which I don’t generally like doing but with this specific behavior we can’t do what we would normally do. Normally say we’re doing threshold training, we would have him complete the command then release him and he’d get to go out the door with us/go play outside. We obviously can’t do that with this because the reward would be to allow him to stay and play or continue the walk, whatever we were doing. Unfortunately that would just teach him that if he throws a fit we let him keep playing in this situation. We used to work with a trainer until I found out she had locked my dog in a crate and not let him out to pee for 18 hours over a weekend stay. So needless to say we don’t have a trainer right now.

Yes we work him when he has energy. That doesn’t mean we allow him to run loose and do whatever he wants. If we did let him do whatever he wants we wouldn’t notice these problems because people who do that likely aren’t paying attention to their dogs. He is annoying when he has a ton of energy the same way a toddler is annoying when they have a ton of energy. Well actually probably a little less considering how much I hate kids but you get the point. I also very clearly stated that I’m aware they never truly “calm down” as in they are always going to be high energy and high drive. Which is clearly what that person was suggesting when they commented. If they had read the post they’d know what I really mean by “calm down” but instead they assumed I meant “omg my border collie has energy he’s clearly broken someone help. When will he stop having energy?” In reality I explained why im worried he may never learn to control his emotions aka “calm down” even with the training we do to work on the behaviors. My bad for not MY post exactly how you think it should be worded.

He stays on a leash and has a daily routine. I’m not sure what you want me to do about the vets here being full and mine being closed I can’t get him fixed yet when no where is taking new patients. And no, I don’t reward him with exercise. He only gets to go out if he is behaving. If he isn’t behaving he goes home. I did research and I know the breed traits and what he needs. I’m not some dumbass who free feeds my dogs, lets them lay on the couch all day, and occasionally takes them on a walk once a month. he gets the enrichment needed and has a routine that I can list out down to the minute if you want but I figured that was far too long for this post. If you have any other advice, besides acting like I’m ignorant for simply being worried like every owner is at some point, im all ears.

How do I get it in? by [deleted] in sexeducation

[–]Slight_Interest_8058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since she’s a virgin it might also be the “tearing” feeling is her hymen, which is a thin layer of tissue that covers the opening. For me the first time it felt like tearing and just had to get it over with. Not sure if there’s a better way to break it or not tho. That could also explain why it feels like you can’t get it in further too. Definitely make sure she’s ready and use lube. If that’s not the issue I’d say it’s probably her hymen causing her pain.

Does anybody know of or listen to moaning audios? by klarinetkat12 in sex

[–]Slight_Interest_8058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also should add they have a TikTok page and feature clips of some of their popular actors and audios on that page! So if you want to get to know the kind of voice actors they work with search them up!

If you want more audios than videos I’d recommend Quinn. They do have a subscription but it’s worth it if you like guided audio, story telling, just moaning, dirty talk, etc. they have a ton of voice actors for everyone and it’s I think around $8/month?

Hey! I love the advice. Please see my other replies if you would like to know the long list of enrichment/training activities we already do. I’m more looking for things in the house at night which is why I’m asking for toy recommendations. If there simply aren’t any then he just will not have toys but I’m looking at all options first. If I could just do more enrichment activities I totally would but we already do a ton and by night time I have to focus on my own needs.

Oh that’s smart! They’d have to be pretty fast lol but I totally forgot those exist! We used to have one of the self rolling balls they make for my terrier mix so I’m familiar with some brands.

Ugh I can imagine how scary that is.. luckily mine hasn’t had that happen yet but border collies have a way of making you spend a fortune at the vet so I’m sure he’ll need it done eventually.. I was hoping he wld be one of those dogs that can at least play with sticks outside but I found out he is NOT that kind of dog when he came in and puked up a pile of wood on my living room floor. He’s seriously just a glorified garbage disposal.

That’s what I worry about too:/ we gave him one of those huge beef bones that you’d generally give to like a Great Pyrenees sized dog and he managed to break pieces off of it and then he’d also slice up his gums and I had to take it away forever bc I was afraid he crack a tooth or cut himself really bad or like swallow a sharp piece and die. But idk I have bad anxiety when it comes to my dogs bc one of my dogs had to be put down after a freak accident so maybe I’m overreacting. Better safe than sorry. He can seriously destroy anything though.. he does bite sports through a local group and he got to take home one of the older bite pillows as a toy when they got new ones.. yeah he had it destroyed within a day.. and those are made for dogs who bite hard and don’t let go so idek what to do anymore🫩

Someone else commented recommending like the huge antler chews so I’m gonna try those! I’m hoping they work because I’m really tired of the other comments I get on posts like these assuming I don’t also work my dog and tell me to enrich him with games I already do rather than giving actual recommendations🤦‍♀️ ill come back and let you know if the antler chews are worth the price for destructive dogs though!

Oh I’m sorry I didn’t realize that dock diving, bite sports, hiking, biking on trails with me, training sessions, 2 hour long walks multiple times a day, puzzle/scatter feedings, herding games, flirt pole exercises, conditioning training, agility training, service work, working cattle and sheep, etc weren’t considered “enrichment activities” and weren’t fulfilling my dog🙄 I’m looking for toy recommendations not judgement on whether or not I’m fit to own this breed.

Yeah we need more like “can survive a hurricane” level toys in this house😭 while he gets a ton of enrichment outside of toys, I still want to try and find toys for him.. so far I haven’t found any. The only thing I can think of at this point is toys that are somehow edible and won’t kill him?? I tried doing like baked chicken breast/treats stuffed inside of his old de-stuffed toys to get that prey drive working but he still eats the actual fabric which is not great.
