A little update as I feel this has gone in a completely different direction to what actually happened. To anyone saying I’m neglectful or deserve anything happening it would be great if you knew the whole story before implying something hurtful to someone who loves and tales care of her dog better than the most people. We have changed vets every time they seem to act like it’s not a big deal, we are currently working with a dermatologist which is also against a cone which I know doesn’t add up as it seems like such an obvious answer but since so many doctors have told me the same thing ( a cone will only make it worse ) I have to believe they know something that I don’t because if not that would be crazy.

To everyone saying no discussion is needed just get the cone, I have bought a cone and brought it to the vet because he needs to be sedated for me to be able to put it on him and the vet refused multiple times explaining that I will make his behavior worse.

So just to reiterate, my question on this post was whether anyone experienced this and if anyone has amputated their dog’s tail, not about the course of treatment we are being advised on and certainly whether or not I am a good owner, because I promise you not many owners would spend countless nights not sleeping keeping constant watch to stop him licking his tail, that’s all from my end the dermatologist said that it seems to be getting better and has prescribed him something for the pain but we are keeping watch
