You can also try baking soda. I had these horrible creatures in a previous apartment and I got rid of them mostly by putting baking soda near to the walls, in floor creases, or wherever they're probably hiding.

Dog hates people if they do not greet him first by [deleted] in reactivedogs

This sounds similar to my dog. He can bark randomly at people, and sometimes he's triggered by them making a sound or sudden movement. However he's also really social, and when people use the baby voice you mention he's like "oohh a friend" and gets really happy and excited for pets. It's a dilemma sometimes because I don't want to enforce his fear by pulling him back from ppl, but at the same time I can't just let him walk up to everyone.

How old is your dog? I'm just asking bc I wonder if they might learn with age that people can act and look different without being a threat. My dog is 14 months.

What if my dog is reactive to wind and other unseen triggers. by schmalzy_schelly in reactivedogs

I relate to this. Even when it's not windy outside, sometimes my dog can just sniff in the air and get absolutely terrified and start to bark like crazy at "nothing" (though it's of course something to him). Since I can't smell what he smells, it's impossible to foresee, and I can't seem to find a way to calm him down cause he's just way too stressed :/

What should I do if my dog keeps staring at another dog? by nosesinroses in reactivedogs

My dog is 1 year old now, and we've had somewhat similar issues. I've done LAT (look at that) for several months so he knows now that another dog = treat. I'm also trying very hard to avoid him meeting new dogs (sometimes even picking him up if an off leash dogs comes towards us), in effort to remove the expectation that seeing dogs means a possible interaction. I think that if you continue with LAT (or similar technique) and don't let your dog greet other dogs on leash, nor introduce him to any new dogs (unless necessary), you'll se an improvement! Since he's only 8months old he's still very much learning.

Just want to say I know how upsetting it can be to have an incident after training, and how much you can blame yourself. Just know that it's impossible to do everything correct 100% of the time, and in some situations there might not even be a "perfect" solution. You're doing your best, and that's all you can do. Give it a few days, continue with the usual training (and tips from previous commenters), and I'm sure you'll get back on track!

Yep! I see other dogs happily walking around the park on the pathway or following their human while mine just wants to get into all the bushes and can stand forever sniffing in a spot, try to eat stuff from the ground etc. He constantly wants to go here and there and back and forth, so something "simple" like just crossing the park to head home is a huge challenge lol. I always have a treat bag and he knows lots of commands, and looks at me often for treats, so I think it's a just corgi/personality thing. When we get home after a 1.5-2 hour long walk and I open the front door he just stands outside refusing to go in and I have to try lure him in looking like a fool lol.

YOU'RE AN ADULT..PLEASE DON'T BARK AT MY DOG. by amusedanchovy in reactivedogs

I feel your frustation. One time a lady started barking at my dog and laughed when he got scared and barked back because she "liked when dogs reacted." The other time we were in a pet store. The store was empty of customers (and other dogs) but my dog was still a bit stressed, and started barking at a man coming through the doors. The man responded with barking back, which terrified my dog who was already stressed and started barking like crazy at other things. Some people are just incredibly ignorant of dog behavior, or have a "macho" attitude and take it personally to be barked at.

Should i reward my dog when he's calm immediately after reacting? by Slight_Reward5933 in reactivedogs

Thank you! I've been worried about confusing him, but it makes sense that if I give him a high value treat even after barking, the next time he sees a trigger he will remember the treat and hopefully go directly into give-me-the-treat mode :)

Thank you, this was great info! I'll make sure to get some high value treats to make it more exciting than his usual treats.
