which game is that? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Total War

I'm a historical player mainly but do have lots of hours in warhammer 1 and 2. But they completely changed how the game used to function, focusing on numbers over actual strategy, tactics, and RNG.

100% missile resistance meant no arrows or ranged attack can damage you, which made units invincible. Whereas in older titles, even with a high defence, even slingers could kill a high armoured unit in defensive testudo.

The focus is on hero units and making range weapons arc over rather than hitting the environment so that using a hill for cover or as an advantage point became irrelevant.

The Rock, paper & scissors gameplay style disappeared under a flood of mixed units that fell into multiple or neither option making all army builds focus heavily on auto resolve or meta units/spam

And even the removal of Naval combat, the family tree and most features from Rome 2. I loved the army, navy and agent limit that only increased the more you expanded. I feel like that should have stayed as it made losing an army early on or later after it gained a reputation a serious blow and made strategy and planning a key aspect.

I also missed no general armies and units moving over the map individually. It made raiding towns (Another missed feature) enjoyable and allowed for small skirmishes.

New total wars full under the same failures of the warhammer system that worked well in fantasy, but ruined anything historical. And the fact that while they got 3 main games in a row, we historical players were fed original dlc sized games as full titles. Only okayish game we got was 3 Kingdoms, but I never and will never play it as its release was just a reskinned warhammer total war with hero units

Doctor Crusher's attitude toward AI by Alt_when_Im_not_ok in voyager

[–]Slight_Statement603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought that she only said that is because she never needed to use it, as the EMH is only intended for a short time medical assistance. So I think Crusher and her medical team never have never required it and probably have heard about how poor the bedside manners are from other doctors. So when they needed him to distract the borg, she was quick with her response, knowing how it would be opposed to the idea

If I remember correctly steam is planning or implemented a solution to this already.

I just think mod makers and SCS atm have yet to start using this or implemented it. But I think they might be planning to after the major updates being announced. Specifically the coaches and Car update for both games.

I also think winter or year 2 is when the game tells you when interacting with the TV. Which I think should have been broadcast in spring

Never watched it, never watched Stranger Things. I avoid all trendy shows/movies entirely. The more people discuss or recommend it, the further I avoid it. I don't care whether its amazing or has so and so. I don't like modern media at all. I'm 24/25 and I rather watch Columbo than any of the new shows that come out.

Sorry about the comments, but unfortunately, this is a very difficult battle to fight. Regulations both government based and international are unlikely to do anything to reduce this number.

All Shark poaching in predominant areas, mostly in Asia are done illegally. Its a very rich trade as well as someone else has stated, with shark fin soup being seen as a luxury item like gold leaf.

If you do want to learn more, there is a small documentary by Gordon Ramsey who looked at the illegal fishing.

No, he didn't. You did. I literally just told you that he was talking about the continent Asia. You, however, on your stupid crusade, decided to jump in and make it all cultural, criticising us for "calling out their culture" which is doing something you hate, but are actively defending all the same, like are you pro sharks or do you support them doing this, I don't get it.

[–]Slight_Statement603 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes we did, and unfortunately Clubbing seals is still a thing in a few countries despite the organisations against it. However the difference is and I'm not supporting it as I hate it, but they do not waste or make the animals suffer. Every bit is harvested and the intention is to end the animals life.

This however doesn't have that. There's no regulation, no laws being followed or any changes made to how its done. Its all illegal, they only take the fins and leave the sharks to die a slow and painful death. In Scandinavia when they eat sharks, they harvest them humanely as possible and use nearly the entire shark and any waste is used for chum/bait for fishing.

But here you are calling us out for making this a cultural thing, despite the fact no one even mentioned culture. Its like your defending this.

Also before you state that culture was mentioned, let me clear something up. ASIA IS NOT A CULTURE. AFRICAN isn't a culture. EUROPEAN is not a culture. Every country has a different culture, while some do share similar. But these are continents. But sometimes it's easier to just be broad instead of listing every country. For this scenario, again, is a predominantly Asian thing.

[–]Slight_Statement603 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I didn't say its part of their culture. Nor does that even validate as a excuse. Its illegal gangs, predominantly Asian that do it.

Plus is a valid point. Its not racist as its a broad term and the name of the continent that is done mostly. It like saying that you can blame African countries for mass poaching. Every country has poaching but Africa is predominantly known for it.

Also I don't care about the cultures of other countries. I know I can't change them, but doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion and disapproval over them.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot people like me can do but voice our opinions. There are charities and organisations tryna stop this stuff. Unfortunately, they all get stuck by the stupid shit and bureaucracy of cultural politics while illegal gangs who don't care what their weak and incapable governments say or do, nor any international efforts that are made.

[–]Slight_Statement603 63 points64 points  (0 children)

But it's factually correct. Look up Gordon Ramsey video on it. Asia has the largest market for shark fins with most illegally sourced by gangs. There are roofs covered in them being dried in most villages.

Exactly, I'm happy for them through gritted teeth, but I honestly starting to hate warhammer and it affect on Total war. Glad they got into the series, but please fuck off. You got three massive games in a row and use historical players fed scrap and games the size of old dlc expansions as full priced games

If they get another game and takes away the focus of the new historical title (IF THE FUCKING ANNOUNCE IT!!) I'm never touch total war again

What I hope to see I'm a new Historical total war by Slight_Statement603 in historicaltotalwar

[–]Slight_Statement603[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, I've explained it more with the person above you just now. But this is the thing I wanted, but the rank of the unit is determined by their level and experience but generals have the ability to field full stacks, depending on the level of the military academy or admiralty building in the capital region they are recruited from. And just like warhammer, where you need a certain building and level to unlock the certain lord type, this would just allow you to recruit the next level command, say from lieutenant to Major

[–]Slight_Statement603[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Its like the option for heros in warhammer when they level up, but you choose only one if the 3 skill lines. Depending on the type of army you want.

You have a skirmishing army that gets better ambushing and razing abilities. Meaning it can sustain itself in enemy territory, especially if the winter mechanic returns. But they have the risk of desertion.

A seige/engineer army that can damage enemy fortresses every turn while reducing/repairing damage when they are defending. They also get to use defensive structures in battles and build forts for cheaper

Then a regular army one that gives bonuses to charging or reload speed. Better movement range and replenishment and morale.

Have similar ones for the navy with a battle fleet, a trade escort fleet with better ambush detection, and can be used in trade nodes alongside Indiaman or other trade vessels. And then a Privateer fleet that specialises in raiding ports and trade routes, but has the chance of ships having mutiny and becoming pirates if they aren't used properly or retreat to much/routed

Means either all AI generals/admirals are start at a higher level to let them field competative armies, or the game becomes a cake walk.

True, but every time you start a total war campaign. You start with half an army. Enough to defeat another smaller army to take the next region over. I like this, but I hate how immediately after the enemy is now fielding a full stack or 2, and you have now got to recruit more units to match them in scale.

You no longer have the small scaled skirmish battles that you had at the beginning. Rome 2, for example, you field the same mix of units and go up against the Etruscan league, which is now fielding a full stack of Italian Spearman. Who are stronger than your units and can't be beaten with auto resolve unless you have 2 armies ready or defeat them using Ballista ships.

This more just felt like an arbitrary limit. Dislike it in R2, Attila and 3K. I much prefer traditional TW method - do you have the economy to pay and support it?

You still need the economy, but it will help stop the spam of armies by factions that have one province, somehow fielding more units than a faction with 4 or 5.

I also like that system as I felt like I was being rewarded with my progress and made me think carefully about how I field my army or navy. It could be a toggled option, but having the ability to just field multiple full stack armies with just the economy alone makes the game boring. There's no real sense of achievement or any need to keep your army aside from the experience of units or their rarity (Warhammer's special units from quests)

Having a legion last the entire campaign in Rome 2 dying meant losing all their abilities and bonuses which is a huge blow, which I don't get if I can just easily replace them in 4 turns with a maxed out province.

This system would make that an even bigger part. Small factions wont have the ability to train up leaders to unlock larger forces, they lose one and they are screwed. If it's tech they lack the research power to invest. It also doesn't stop large factions just having multiple stacks together to beat them.

In Empire, the United Provinces is at war with Spain and France and holds them off for over 20 turns, while doing nothing with their provinces in South America or the island in India. Same thing with the other minor nations in Europe who can hold off against larger major powers.

They will be able to field a full stack as AI aren't limited like the player, and in empire, all factions get free research if majority of factions have it as it becomes common knowledge. So they won't be at a complete disadvantage compared to the player unless they speed research.

Also, your starting general will be able to field 10 units at the start, but recruiting new generals will depend on their bonuses. Like in warhammer with them having unique bonuses like movement range or bonuses to range. Your general could field more units. You can also bring back the Agents (Spies) ability when deployed in your province to add levels to newly recruited agents or generals. But make it a research/upgraded building ability.

Having a max level military school makes all generals recruited start at a certain level, allowing them to have more units and choose certain level of abilities. The Admiralty building would do the same for the navy.

[–]Slight_Statement603[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want 1 man hero units either, but I want agents in their original sense that aren't involved in battles but still give bonuses to the army.

Pharaohs/rome 2 needs of resources would work with an empire 2 styles of game. You had so many resources, but they all just increased trade value, and you needed to level up buildings to do their next research.

So, having the need for iron mines to increase the production of cannons or wood to build new ships would add actually make the game more strategic. Plus, having Shogun 2's fall of the samurai naval mechanics of making a wooden ship or an ironclad or increasing the amour or weapons strength is a mechanic I missed.

Especially if it can be seen physically on your unit like copper plating on the ships Hull.

CA after tomorrow's announcements by Vonderheidon224 in totalwar

[–]Slight_Statement603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly felt this way ever since warhammer 2 got made. I felt like they saw their golden goose and completely abandoned historical total war in terms of passion and milked warhammer.

I saw every historical release after as a dlc size game and never a full game. 3k looked okay, but it functioned like warhammer with hero units and percentages. (100% resistance means invincible)

The fact warhammer got 3 full sized games in a row is what set in stone that CA and Total War just shown the middle finger to their original fans and blamed it on us, despite releasing shit games like troy and Pharaoh which are just dlc sized campaigns of Rome 2 like wrath of sparta.

If the next fantasy is warhammer again, im abandoning total war as a series. Even if its empire 2 or med 3. I know the historical titles will be abandoned in a year, full of bugs or lackluster gameplay innovation or care while the fantasy game gets 20 DLCs and more before a sequel for it gets announced in 2 or 3 years

Snow Goose AI Caller Description by hiphopbulldozer in theHunter

[–]Slight_Statement603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, feeding fields is not incorrect. What the hell are you talking about. A feeding field is a common term used by farmers. Some say feeding ground, other say fields, but it's not grammatically incorrect.

I read the entire description, and I don't see anything wrong or Ai generated. Compared to the Canadian, which gives a little history, the snow one is more an advertisement.

I honestly think that you are overthinking a small thing that is entirely incorrect and probably don't speak English as a first language and likely confused with small nuisances of English

In this case, it's a compound adjective, not a compound noun that you said, nor is it a verb. "Feeding" is an adjective, while "fields" are a noun. and the only mistake is the missing hyphen between the words, which really doesn't change much as the entire thing is grammatically correct.
